Default Anyone ever fished in the Glenmore Reservoir?

Relatively new to the city, and missing all the lakes in BC. I don't have a boat anymore, and I heard you can fish and rent boats in the Reservoir. Anyone ever done it? Is there a particular spot that's better then the rest?

Id like to hear an answer to this as well.

One thing though is that motorized boats aren't allowed on the reservoir (I guess other than the touristy type boat from Heritage Park.) I believe you can rent canoes from the canoe club.

As for people fishing, I often see people fishing on the south shore of the reservoir across from Heritage Park, west of Glenmore Landing.

You can fish in the reservoir and as far as I know can rent canoes. The SS Moyer from heritage park is actually a steam powered paddle boat, so not a motor boat, and I don't think you can canoe over where the rowing teams practice.
I've caught a few pike in there over the years using a red and white.
Hope that helps.

I've used Rapalas and Buzz bombs in Late August on to mid October and done really well for Browns in there. Been 3-4 years since I have fished there but it is home to some absolute PIGS.

I used to fish the Reservoir all the time. There are/were a lot of Pike in there, some pretty decent sized ones, lots of Perch, and Browns. The Pike are pretty easy to catch, and I've caught my fair share from the shore. I've only caught a few Browns and it's been right after the ice melts.

You technically aren't supposed to fish from the docks, but most people do when it isn't busy. The dock by Heritage Park is pretty good, and it's a good spot even from the shore.

Would this be a good place to take kids?

My 6 and 8 year old are dying to fish, but I don't know a damn thing about it.

It's where I learned, so I'm biased in saying that it is a good place to learn. There isn't a lot of obstructions for the intial process, and there are a lot of places to fish from so you can get the space to learn and experiment with casting.

Many years ago (1983-85) I used to fish for Pike off the docks by the sailing club throughout the summer. The unwritten rule was that I could fish from there until the sailing lessons started, which was around 08:30, so I used to go there around 05:00.

On average, I would come home with 2 or 3 decent size Pikes, which I would sell to my parents for $5.00 each.

All this time, I never knew there were fish, and people who caught them, at the Glenmore Reservoir.

They aren't meeting in the lake.

I'm told there are big pike and trout just below the Dam.

Went down to the reservior the other weekend and did some fishing. Started at the bridge in Weaselhead and continued from there. However, this weekend we're taking a 5.5 year old. Any suggestions on areas that would be good/short walk from the car/parking? I saw the suggestion of the docks by the rowing club or canoe club, we'll try there, but that suggestion was from years ago, so maybe they're not as lenient now and it'd be nice to have a backup.

Just looking for something reasonable safe, not on a cliff/ledge and not too far a walk. Caught a pike and a small trout last week - hoping to pull in another Pike or two to entertain the kid.

Thanks

From the canoe club, south to the point and a little further around you should be able to catch some pike casting spoons (red and white, five of diamonds, plain silver, etc). Troll or cast out from shore, and let it sink a few seconds before retrieving slowly (just enough to keep off bottom) or vary speed.

There are also perch that you might catch still fishing with maggots on a #12 or 10 plain hook (below a bobber or a few inches to 2ft up from a bottom weight). Around weed beds might be worth trying.

As far as i know you can rent canoes there.

^^^

I'm pretty sure you can't fish with bait, in our drinking water.

Edit - Actually you can, but not with bait fish:

The old Strathmore reservoir is a great place to fish.

They have a whole bunch of pike in there that you apparently can't eat but I only catch and release anyways.
