Anyone else's car get hit last night? Just went down to check my wifes car and I see 6-7 good sized dings in the hood and roof.
Is it worth it to call insurance on these types of situations? Would our rates go up if we make a claim? I've actually never had to make an insurance claim before, so not sure what the consequences are.
If we'd rather fix on our own, anyone know someone who deals with this stuff?

My sister and brother in law just got their brand new car two weeks ago. Over 20 dents last night. They are slightly unhappy about that.

The skylight in my house shattered.
Luckily so far it is just the outer layer, and the inner layer appears to be intact

That sucks Table5. I saw a few cars in W. Hillhurst that got pounded last night. We had loonie/twonie sized hail for about 10-15min.
I'm always shocked at the number of people that leave their cars on the streets when they have perfectly good garages. Its the 2nd biggest purchase for most people!! I've seen Porsches/MB/BMW/Audi's etc. all get clobbered by hail.

Any good insurer will allow you to report a claim, and then if it is no economically smart, withdraw the claim.
In short get the figures to repair before you decide to fix it yourself.
Make an informed decision.
PS sorry for your loss.

Should be a comprehensive claim and therefore should not affect your rates.

Unfortunately we only have one indoor garage spot. I get it in the summer, my wife gets it in the winter.

Yeah I had a car written off a couple years ago due to hail. Its classified as an "Act of God" and shouldn't effect your rates.

Hmm, interesting. I guess I should definitely give them a call then. I guess I was a little afraid that once I call, it will be marked as damaged in their records.

I think weather related stuff should be classified as an "Act of Gaia".

Yes, you should. It could be pretty pricey to fix...plus, the shops are going to be buried so hopefully you can get it in before they get swamped.

I went through insurance to get my hail damaged car repaired and my premiums didn't go up. Take it for what it is.

Funnily enough that dent looks just like hail, so I'm sure I could if I wanted to. Unfortunately there's about 7-8 other ones just like it spread across the hood and roof.

As someone who is related to someone who works in an insurance call center - tip of the day - Dont call (right now) After a hail storm or any other kind of storm they get flooded with calls and the body shops will be booked solid. If the damage isn't terrible wait a few weeks and call it in so you will get better service.

Shouldn't you call fairly quickly though, so there's no suspicion of it being something else (ie like a bike rack incident)? Two weeks seems like a long time.
Either way, I took photos.
