Default webpage problems?

Lately I have been having problems with some webpages not loading properly (extremely slow) I usually use IE but here's the weird part. I try the same page in firefox and down in the left corner it says "connecting to www.google.com" and just hangs there for minutes.

I have shaw extreme and most webpages load in an instant so it's not my connection.

Any ideas?

I would start with a malware scan as they love to target browsers. Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials work well for me. A few years ago I had a router that would take forever to forward DNS queries and had to point my PC to a DNS server directly. Try performing some nslookup's from command prompt to see what kind of response time you are getting.

Did a scan and nothing, like I said most sites are no problem and immediate but even calgarysun.com today had the annoying (looking up google.com) crap.

I'm just here to make a snide comment about using Internet Explorer and reading the Calgary Sun.

I guess I'll add that it could be something to do with the ads. I know I had similar issue caused by the AdBlocker I was running. I disabled it for the specific site and it solved the problem.

I have the same problem using Firefox at work.

www.ncix.com never fails to exhibit the problem. The main page loads fine, but click on any product and it takes forever to load, but it does load in the end.

Down in bottom left it sometimes says connecting to ws.sharethis.com, or google-analytics, but I think those are red herrings.

I'm kicking myself because months ago I observed that I could do...something...and make the problem go away. Damned if I can remember what that something was, though!

Ran into someone having this problem a while back with a shaw connection. The description sounds similar (some sites acting extremely slow, but not all)
