Default Need help from anyone who knows about interior doors

So long story short, in the process of moving out of my condo (rental) the front hall closet door and the front door hit each other and the handle of the front door punched a little hole into the front hall closet door. It's a flat (no fancy mouldings or inserts) hollow interior door, fairly skinny sized. I'm supposed to do a move out inspection tonight. Called my landlord to tell them what happened and they asked if I can look into getting a quote today on what it would cost to get the door replaced and painted so we can figure out an appropriate damage deposit holdback (otherwise I'll have to wait for them to get a quote etc etc).

Anyone know anything about this? I'm thinking of calling the warranty dept for the building as despite not being a warranty item they might know who the supplier was and could maybe get a hook up on a door from the next building going up (Keynote). I called home depot to see if they did sales + Installation but not for interior doors (they sell, but don't install).

Any help appreciated!

any new door will be spray finished, not rolled - expect at least 100 bucks for a pro to do this to replicate the existing look.

You should only need the door as the frame will be fine. the trick is to find the exact door with same configurations - easier said than done.

Try Timbertown, call the NE shop and drop Bigtimes name!! lol

if you went the route of repairing the existing - paint/labour will probably cost in the realm of 200-250 IMO, plus materials.

Can be expensive for such a small incident.

Do not take this as gospel.

surferguy is on the right track, you can bring in the damaged door and we can machine a new door to match that one. Sounds like it is a simple hardboard slab, ours will have the white primer on them for painting, but you will have to get it painted.

Is it on hinges or a track? What size is the door, 24"?

Quick estimate (assuming a 24" door on hinges):

-slab $29
-machine to match charge $48

$77 (before tax)

I wouldn't pay a dime for the damage.

The landlord should have had a rubber piece on the closet door where the front door handle meets the closet door so no damage is done when they meet. That's what they do when two doors can possibly hit each other. That sounds like negligence by the landlord.

It was my fault and in normal operation they shouldnt hit each other. I left the closet door open when my buddy tried to come in through the front they slammed together. Hasn't happened ever in the 2+ years I've lived there, but moving always results in this kind of crap. I'm quite willing to pay for the damage (and I would expect the same if I owned it) but I've just never had to deal with this type of issue, not being a homeowner.

A new slab should be ~50$ install shouldn't be much more. Use some putty and fix the dent, $20 worth of paint and your good. I wouldn't be willing to pay any more than $100 off the dd if I was in your shoes.

Success! Was able to get a replacement door already prepainted and sized for the unit. The developers of keynote are pretty awesome.
