Obesity
I was at Safeway today and saw a very large women getting out of a car. She was parked in the Handicapped spot.
Is obesity really a handicap?

If anything, it's an advantage. So much more surface area to rest your drinks, burgers, tacos and pizza upon.

Supremely obese people should have to park in the furthest spaces from grocery stores, restaurants, etc. so that it discourages them from eating and gets a bit of exercise in their lives.

In the immortal words of Jesse Ventura when told it was a glandular problem:
It's a glandular problem alright...the hand to mouth gland.

I doubt obesity was her handicap.
If I had to guess randomly, I would think that there would be issues related to her knees, hips or legs in some way. All of which are certainly considered handicaps in relation to those parking stalls.
Really, all that matter is if she has a parking tag (assuming it is her tag, or course)

Did she have a handicap permit? If so, it's good enough for the government, and really shouldn't be anyone else's concern.
None of us can judge whether or not someone should qualify for a handicap permit without knowing anything more than "they don't look handicapped". The obesity may be the cause of her handicap, or her handicap may be the reason she's obese, or she just might be lazy.
Maybe she has an elderly father who likes the independence of going to the store every week, but has a problem walking long distances outside the store, so she drops him off, runs some errands, then goes back to Safeway to pick him up.

As someone entitled to 'privileged parking' this bothers me a lot.
I hardly ever use the parking spots because I feel like an ass when I see someone who really needs it miss out, and it is 99.999% always some fatty, whose only issue is they're fat taking up the spots.
IMO, no, being a fat ass is not a handicap.

Not unless her doctor thinks it is, and issues her a permit. I think obesity could be the primary reason for issuing a permit, for example when someone weighs 500 lbs, or a secondary reason where a person has a heart condition where he or she would be put at risk by walking large distances.

I was buying a huge dvd collection from some guy and he was this great big obese guy who used a love seat as his computer chair. He had the biggest transformers collection i had ever seen. One of each and i would have paid him thousands for it. but he lived in the basement and the smell was so bad i couldn't breathe.

Obviously you don't have any family members or friends who are grossly overweight.
