Default Olympic GDT - 10 August

Richard Weinberger has won (what else?) a bronze in the men's 10km swimming marathon, so a decent start to the day for Canada.

He was giddy at the medal ceremony. It was pretty fun to watch.

Synchronized swimming continues to be one of the creepiest things I've ever watched.

Lets do a test. go put some on, fill your sink at work and stick your face in it for a minute. hehe

i'm pretty sure they inject it into their skin though.

I had no idea there was even a swimming marathon, saw them swimming in a dirty looking canal and thought what the heck is this. Then had to get going to work.
Props to Weinberger on a bronze.
Is it true he dropped or lost his goggles during the race and fell all the way to last?
I heard that on the radio.

Doesn't sound like it from this article:
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/aquatics/n...tml?cid=rsstsn
Sounds like he got out to a top four spot early and then stayed in the top group all through the race. It does say that he tore off his swimming cap in the first few strokes of the race, so maybe that's what they were referencing.

I read an article yesterday that in a previous race he was in front after the start and went to take his cap off and hit his goggles. By the time he turned over and adjusted them the pack was coming and he was forced to tuck and roll while he got trampled by all of the other swimmers.

That must be what golden heard

It seems soo out of place. Much, much worse than snowboarding at the Winter games.

Well it's not stunt bike stuff like the in the X-games at least. It's pretty athletic looking (they're pedaling pretty damn hard) and there's some skill in getting optimum height and angles off ramps. The crashes are pretty crazy, like Nascar, so it's a good spectator sport. Much better than water polo or that weird dance thingy in gymnastics.

Oh for sure, I meant no disrespect to the riders or their skill and athleticism. The event just seems way out of place compared to others at the Olympics. A 'one of these things is not like the other' kind of thing.

only because it's new. hell i wish they'd introduce more x-games into the olympics, they're far more entertaining to watch than half of the official sports, and more athletically demanding

Heads up: Matthew Gentry is wrestling in the bronze medal match in the 74kg class against some Russian guy at 12:39. Not a whole lot else happening today. There is platform diving qualifications with a couple of Canadians but I don't think we are medal threats in that. Also the men's and women's 4x100 relays have their first round today: 12:45 for men, 13:40 for women.

For those who care about such things the US basketball team will beat up on Argentina in the semi-final later and there is a bronze medal soccer match between Japan and South Korea.

Its Millwoods. And they couldn't be from Millwoods because all of the competitors are white.

The Spain-Russia basketball semifinal is going on now. It's been a terrible game. 53-49 Spain in the 4th.

Feels like a bad college basketball game.. something from the Horizon League maybe.
