I'm still emotionally spent from watching that match. Christine Sinclair is a legend. The officiating however was unfortunately reminiscent of that of the gold medal match of women's hockey at Salt Lake City in 2002, where the teams were at least a little more evenly matched at least.
As tempting as it might be to detest the Americans after the result, I can't. I had a beer with an American track cyclist the other day and he was such a gracious, friendly guy who spoke glowingly of his Canadian rivals. Then my brother met the USA men's volleyball team yesterday at a pub, and they invited him to join their table. In both cases the American Olympians were thankful to receive some Canada pins and happy to display them on their accreditation passes. They are our sporting rivals and we understandably feel overshadowed by them as Canadians, but at the end of the day there is more goodwill there than ill will.
