Flyers Future Plans
Philadelphia - Another season of disappointment in Philadelphia, again knocked by the Montreal Canadiens, this time in the East semi-finals. The rumours started floating wether GM Schum would be back or not. More on that later.
The team was built to win, top players on defence, offence and a top goaltender with depth few teams could match. After a quick elimination of the Penguins, the Flyers were high but were quickly brought back to the ground in a close series loss to the Habs.
"I did all I could, tried different players and different lines but someone has to lose, too bad it was me." Said Schum
The Flyers off-season is a mess of its own, with a payroll nearing 110 million, Schum will have to trim off 35 million and find a top 15 pick for the Kings.
"When you build a team like that I think its unfair to hand someone the mess, so I'll be sticking around to clean up this mess. Everyone is available, I'll be tearing down this team, if you want stars, come get them quickly." Said Schum
A big thank you to the commissioners and all the volunteers who took their time in making this another successful year for the CPHL. But I do feel the league has to make changes in order to move forward.

You are too tough on yourself. The Flyers have a lot of cap to trim but even after moving out the vets you’ll have a great young core to re-build around.
Always interested to hear how you think the league can be improved.

It's been a while but lots of moves have been made in Philly land. Here is a quick review.
To Flyers: Mark McNeil, 2013 2nd
To Blues: Patrick Elias
Quick cost-cutting move and able to pick up couple of assets.
To Flyers: Emerson Etem, Justin Falk, 19th overall
To Leafs: Dustin Byfuglien
Buff was due for a better contract and I wasn't prepared to pay him that, Leafs wanted him so we came to an agreement with me grabbing couple of good prospects and a depth dman.
To Flyers: Patrik Berglund, Greg McKegg, 2013 SJ 1st
To Sharks: Jordan Staal
Was excited to acquire Berglund, he's ready for a huge season imo and again Staal was a big contract I didn't wana pay him either. Always liked McKegg the prospect and looking forward to his development.
To Flyers: 13th overall, Carl Klingberg, 2013 Col 3rd
To Stars: Mark McNeil, 19th overall
A move made in order to fulfill a condition but the guy that remains on the roster is Kilngberg and I've always liked him game so looking forward to his development.
To Flyers: 59th overall, 2013 Nas 2nd
To Predators: Rights to RJ Umbegrer
With the direction my team was going in there is no way I could afford to pay RJ the contract he was going to command therefore Preds offered coupe of picks and he was moved out.
To Flyers: 14th overall, 51st overall
To Jackets: 13th overall, 60th overall
This was a move just to give Kings the worst possible picks. Jackets owed Kings a 2nd so now instead of 51st he gets 60th from them. From my end he drops a spot since I woed him a top 15. Fun!
To Flyers: Jordan Caron, 41st overall, 71st overall
To Bolts: Danny Heatley
Heatley has been trending downwards in the NHL and with his contract and my cost cutting motivations there was no way he was coming back. Bolts get him cheap and he shud help them with scoring next year.
To Flyers: Darren Helm, Joonas Doonskoi, Nikita Kuchaerov
To Penguins: Johan Franzen
Our loss was our biggest rivals gain. Needed a certain player in return for Franzen and got him in Helm, who should play well on our third line. Couple other prospects helped complete the deal.
To Flyers: 2013 LA 3rd
To Preds: Stephan Robidas
Salary dump!
To Flyers: JT Miller, Kevin Hayes
To Jackets: Braydon Coburn, 2013 Col 3rd
I did hear the usual "I would've paid more for Coburn" from couple of GMs after the deal yet both were given the opportunity before and both failed at it. Just goes to show, don't be afraid to make an offer. I like Miller and Hayes though, they've got fair way to go but I'm looking forward to their development.
To Flyers: Cody Hodgson, Danny Kristo
To Wild: Andrew Ladd
The intangibles Ladd brings in the NHL are just not there in the CPHL so moved him out for a higher potential Hodgson and a prospect I quite like in Kristo.
To Flyers: Kris Russell
To Preds: Micheal Frolik
As of now I didn't want Frolik in my top 12 but Russell should be rated well enough to play the 6th dman's role. Quick deal.
To Flyers: Derek Stepan
To Sharks: Emerson Etem, Jordan Caron, Zach Buddish, Eric Nystrom
Went back to buying this time, gave up multiple players in order to bring in Stepan. Etem, Caron, Buddish all have good potential but I needed a proven player and Stepan brings that.
To Flyers: Rickard Rakkell, 35th, 36th
To Sharks: Niklas Hjlarmarsson, 2013 2nd
Didn't really wana move Nik but I wanted those picks so moved him in order to get them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outcome as of now:
+ Several affordable contracts
+ High potential
+ All conditions are met
- No experience
- Rating uncertainty
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current lineup and assets
Ryan-Couture-Stepan
Berglund-Duchene-Voracek
Bergenheim-Helm-Hodgson
xxxxxx-Lapierre-Carcillo
Yandle-Burns
E. Johsnon-xxxxx
Russell-Lepisto
Brodeur - I think he comes back next year, if not Bob becomes the starter
Bobrovsky
Top prospects: JT Miller, Kevin Hayes, Danny Kristo, Zac Dalpe, Rickard Rakell, Karl Kilngberg, Greg Mckegg, Nikita Filatov, Kirill Petrov
Picks: 35, 36, 37, 41, 42, 51, 55, 56, 59
UFA: Lubo Visnovsky - I haven't decided if I'm gonna let him walk to re-sign him, I will have the room to re-sign him and plug him in the top 4 but he can be had if anyone else is interested.
Things are gonna be slow in Flyer land in the coming weeks, I've done what I wanted to do. Basically gonna see how this team grows next year.

Another deal....
To Flyers: Marcus Johansson
To Stars: JT Miller, Grek McKegg, Rickard Rakell, SJ 2013 1st
This rounds out the forwards, I like Johansson and the way Caps have developed him. Paid a price again but it got me what Id been after.

Really like Johansson but a 4 for1 deal with 3 solid 1st round prospects was to good to turn down.

Made a "fun" trade.
To Flyers: Jeff Skinner
To Jackets: Matt Duchene, 51st
Not much difference between the 2 players but I like Skinner bit more so made the move.

To Flyers: Matt Read, 46th overall, Boone Jenner
To Jackets: Patrik Berglund
Multiplied Berglund into 3 decent pieces. Happy.

To Flyers: Tom Gilbert, 4 mill in cap
To Stars: Tim Bozon, 2013 2nd conditional, 2014 2nd Phi
Got most of his cap covered and he can be a solid third pair guy. He'll likely play with Suter in Minny so he should do well.

I wasn't comfortable having anyone named Tom on my team.
Oh, and I like Bozon.
