Smoking with kids in the car
I see the dbags across the street from me smoking in the car, while driving all the time with kids. 2 kids, both appear under 4. I know there's a new law that prohibits this, but what can be done about this? Do I have to pray that the cops just miraculously see them and give them the fine, do/can you tip them off, or can you call child services for something like this?
Other than the obvious kick to the face, what are my options here?

Call the police next time they go, make sure you have their licence plate number and make and model of car as well as colour. No excuse for that.

I would call child services or cps (non emergency) or even 311 and one of them will point you in the right direction.
Its creepy, but you could also get video footage of them.

And in this thread...
Over-protective and snoopy neighbours.
I know I will take flak for this, but if it really bothers try to wave them down and explain the law.
Seriously, it is not like they are driving recklessly with their children strapped on the roof. I can't wait until I see obese parents overfeeding their kids and then take video and submit to CPS and people give me a thumbs-up.
Seriously, I think smokers get way too much flack and I am not even one. While, this is not an ideal thing, I don't think CPS needs to be called.

When did it become illegal to overfeed a child?
Calgary has gotten really weird since I left!

It's always about smokers vs obesity on CP. There are others too.

As far as the law that was passed here in Alberta, I was curious to see if it was in force, and a quick googling doesn't show. The original date I saw was Jan 1 2013 but that was taken out before it was passed.
Anyone know when?

Smoking around kids is nasty no matter where it happens, but why is it illegal to smoke around kids in a car but not in your home?
My parents used to smoke around me all the time. I still give them crap till this day for what they used to do, but it was pretty normal when I was growing up.
Smoking around non-smokers is disgusting and I still get pissed off when a smoker lights one up anywhere near me.

Come on man, there is a big difference between jay walking and compromising the health of your kids whose bodies are still developing just to do your dirty habit.

Umm, because it is a small, enclosed space and the kids can't help but breath in a cancer causer agent? Nothing like hot boxing your kids. In a home, it stands to reason that the kids can somewhat get away from the smoke.

Well then you're pretty ignorant if you think an infant or even children can get away from smoke or can even comprehend the dangers of second hand smoke.

Good lord...you do know most homes have a thing called "rooms", right. Maybe a parent can go in one of these "rooms" while the child/infant is another "room". I've even heard that some houses have "rooms" on different levels and even, um, whatyacallit, oh ya, a basement...unlike say, a car.

You do understand that rooms can still seep smoke right? And then linger in a home for 24 hours no matter where in the house you are. Hence why I said you were ignorant.

You just called a guy ignorant because he thinks smoking in a car is more harmful to a child than smoking in a house? They are both bad, but certainly smoking in a confined space where a child has no other option but to breath the air in my opinion is worse. So I too agree, the car would be more harmful.
