Default Custom Earplugs?

After having my hearing messed up a few years ago, I have been wearing disposable foam earplugs to concerts. They have been alright, but they do really muffle and distort sound.

I would like to get some custom ear plugs. Anyone know a good place in Calgary to get them for a reasonable price?

No specific recommendation, but I'd try places that make hearing aids, or call an ear doctors office for a recommendation.

What about an actual hearing loss place? They can probably take an exact mold of your ear as they might if they were fitting you for a hearing aid.

Search for an audiologist. I bought my custom mold musician earplugs in the States for $150. Worth every penny. I'd shop around but that's the ballpark you're looking in.

I use Alpine brand noise attenuators.

They are ear plugs that attenuate volume as opposed to blocking sound. They haveI wear them for all rock type concerts now as I usually choose to be up front at the stage. They scrub off lots of volume while allowing highs to be still heard. I find them to be far superior to foam earplugs. I bought them in Winnipeg before a concert a couple of years ago at a music store (instruments). If I remember correctly they were less than 20 bucks. I found my ears far less fatigued than if I went without and I could still have clarity in hearing high end and talking to people during breaks.

I work in the Aircraft Industry and we get our custom molded ear plugs from Costco. Well worth the money and cheaper than anywhere else. Most Costco's have a hearing centre.

I wear these for shows: http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html

They're pretty inexpensive, and they are much better than the marshmallow foam ones. The sound stays pretty true at all frequencies, just reduced. I find that the foam ones muffle everything and eliminate the treble completely.

I am intrigued by what others have posted however, and I may look at some of those options as well. I don't go to anywhere near as many shows as I used to (in a past life I would be photographing shows quite often) since my baby boy arrived, but I still have a pair of earplugs in my camera bag, the glove box of each car, and in my wife's purse.

Try these:

http://www.radians.com/main/p-282-ra...-earplugs.aspx

custom molded ear plugs.

it is a two part polymer thing. comes in different colours. just mix, put in ear, should be ready in about 10-15 minutes.

note: when you first open the package, the two parts need to "air out" for a while. otherwise, it will take forever to kick. i suggest you pinch a pit of A and B, mix and see how long it takes to kick. you should not need the entire kit to make a pair. you might be able to make two pairs.

works well, comes with a little cute baggie to carry your ear plugs in.

I use the Etymotic plugs for concerts as well. Completely different than foam earplugs, these keep it sounding great.

Of course, if you are really serious, and you think your ears can tell the difference, custom musicians ear plugs will be your best bet.

I got some custom molded musicians earplugs from here for around 200-250$.

http://www.hearingloss.ca/contact-hearing-loss.html

You can get them in a few different decibel reducing levels, and they are definitely better than the foam ear plugs.

London Drugs also sells some musician type earplugs for around 20$, not molded to your ear or anything, but apparently the sound quality is a lot better than the foam ones as well.

Where did you get these? Do they carry them anywhere in Calgary?
Hoping to pick up something before this weekend as my ears are still ringing from last weekend

Just tried London Drugs but they no longer stock any musician earplugs.

I love how

A) I am not surprised at all Costco has a hearing center despite not knowing this weird fact for what seems like a random thing for a big bulk store to have

B) The hearing center is actually being reccomended as good quality but cheap. From Meat stakes to hearing aids, get it at Costco!

Unfortunately we did a bulk order online a few years back, but they've been gone for a while. I did a quick search in the other office just now to see if there was a leftover pair kicking around for you, but came up empty. I'd try calling around to some music shops to see if they've got any options for the weekend. Unfortunately there's a gap between cheap foam earplugs and full-on custom earplugs (which you probably(?) couldn't get by the weekend anyway).
