Default Seeking iTunes cloud/match help - with home server

I'm hoping someone from the CP collective can help me figure this out.

I'm running a Windows 7 machine, and use a qnap for my media storage. I have purchased the Apple iCloud service.

My music is on a directory on the qnap. ITunes preferences point to the directory on the qnap, and I have auto-organize enabled so when I play a new song through iTunes it copies to the qnap. Cloud is enabled. All of the music is physically on the qnap but also on the cloud.

I also have the qnap enabled as a media server for itunes.

My problem is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when songs play from the cloud or from the qnap. Sometimes the songs need to stream from the cloud, even though I have them locally on the qnap. Also, in the "shared" area, where the qnap shows up, I can not make a playlist by dragging songs from there to a playlist, I have to use the main "music" folder which seems to be part cloud, part local.

If anyone here is an itunes cloud guru I'd appreciate some guidance. Tomorrow I'm taking an iPad to a friend's place and will be expected to be the dj. This cloud setup is in so much disarray I'm not sure I'll actually be able to play the music I want. For example, sometimes song on the cloud will not play and it skips to the next one in the playlist.
