Default iPad 2 vs Galaxy Tab 2

So I had someone give me a brand new iPad 2 in box and sealed. I am not a huge Apple fan and was thinking about seeing if someone has a brand new Galaxy Tab 2 and wanted to trade across the board.

For those that may have had both or have one or the other right now, which one would you want or keep? Would you keep the iPad 2 or do the trade for the Galaxy Tab 2? I'm an Android fan for sure, but I've heard you really can't beat an iPad when it comes to tablets. Thoughts?

I've used an iPad 3 and a Galaxy Tab 10.1. They're both pretty good devices - the iPad maybe has a slightly better interface and better app store, though the Tab 2 might have a better interface than the Tab 10.1. The screen shape is a bit different, which might be a factor if you're planning on watching lots of movies etc. (the Samsung has the same dimension ratio as modern TVs while the iPad is more square). Most of the really important apps are available for both I find.

Thanks. Mostly going to use it for browsing the web overall I would say.

Last time I had an Android tablet (about 6 months ago) the tablet-optimized app selection wasn't anywhere near the iOS App Store. If that's important to you, I'd stick with the iPad for now.

That said - Android 4.1 is just a straight up better operating system than iOS5 (though I've only used it on a phone). I'd only consider going with a Tab 2 if you'll primarily be using "native" functionality (browsing, email, maps, etc.) and not relying on 3rd party apps much. And if you can get Android 4.1 on the Tab 2.

Does anyone know if 4.1 will be coming to the Galaxy Tab 2?

I'd assume it would eventually but it wouldn't surprise me if it were months away. How comfortable are you rooting/flashing ROMs? I'd expect the smart dudes at XDA will have a build up before long.

After having a bad experience with my Galaxy S phone, I'm kind of avoiding that sort of thing...lol.

Phone wise, Android phones beat Iphones hands down. They have surpassed the Iphone in many ways.

Tablet wise, the Ipad is still tops in my opinion. Apple has done a fine job refining the Ipad. I get really annoyed with OS lag, and in my experience the galaxy tab has plenty of that. Apps wise the Ipad wins every single time.

Andoid is trying in the tablet market, but I would like to see them try a little harder.

I have the Asus transformer. I got it because I already have an android phone, it was a great value. I like the expandable memory. Modding with the help of XDA combined with the hardware in the thing is a huge plus "future proof" wise. Apps wise, android has enough for my main uses as far as the tablet goes.

Decided to keep the iPad 2 just so I could have the best of both worlds. Have an Android phone and now an Apple tablet. The iPad is pretty slick I must say. Seems to do things quite well. The Facebook app for the iPad is fantastic and I was able to install Chrome for a browser, so I'm enjoying that as well.

So far, the iPad 2 kicks ass.
