Default Apple WWDC 2012 Thread

iOS6? Ivy Bridge Macs? Redesigned MacBook Pros? HiDPI monitors? Resurrected Mac Pros? New MacBook model? USB 3.0? More Mountain Lion?

iOS6 is a given, and the Apple store is down so there's something new coming.

Could potentially be the biggest one-day Apple event since the iPad release imo. The rumour mill for this one has been particularly hot.

Retina MBPs rumored to be $4000? Ouch.

iOS6 rumored to not be on the original iPad. Better not be true.

No - that's the 16GB RAM / 768GB SSD version.

That makes a tiny bit more sense, but still that's pretty expensive. Retina type screens that size can't be cheap to make.

I'm curious about what effect retina displays in a laptop (& eventually desktop) display will have on web design practices & techniques in the next few years. The iPhone 4's retina display is less than 2 years old at this point, so we've really only scratched the surface of pixel doubling & whatnot. It'll be interesting to see how our flow changes in the next 5 years as these retina displays start making it into designers hands.

Don't forget the iPad came in at just about exactly the same price as its non-retina counterpart.

I seriously doubt it's the displays driving that price. Go check out the cost of a 768GB SSD on its own (then add the Apple hardware option premium). If you can find one under $1500 you're a better hardware shopper than I.

How awesome would a retina 27" iMac be? Mmm... pixels...

Edit: I'm also looking forward to downloading the iOS6 beta later today.

Good point, the bigger the display the harder it will be to get good yields but laptop screens aren't that much bigger than tablet screens.

I've seen 500GB SSDs for under $1/GB, but not ones more than that; that definitely would be a big price component as well.

From Engadget: 15.4-inch display with a pixel density of 2880 x 1800. "That four times the number of pixels than the previous generation of MacBook Pro display." That's 220 ppi. 5,184,000 pixels.
