Default Andy Griffith dead at 86

Legendary actor Andy Griffith has died. WTN reports a close friend of the star's says he passed away Tuesday morning in Dare County, North Carolina. The 86-year-old is best known for his role as Andy Taylor from 1960 to 1968.

His legacy role, which earned him the title of "America's Favorite Sheriff"on "The Andy Griffith" show, set in fictional Mayberry, put North Carolina on the map in the entertainment industry. The show ran from 1960-1968, propelling a handful of spin-off programs. Griffith also produced and starred in the television series "Matlock."

This made me sad this morning. When my sister and I were kids, we used to watch Matlock all the time, and Murder She Wrote. We were strange children.

A great actor. Have a look at "A Face in the Crowd" where he plays a southern TV star turned demagogue..

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Hah, I used to watch both myself as a kid, especially Matlock. I still love the bombastic trombones of the Matlock theme song and listen to it every once in a while for kicks.

They buried him 5 hours after death

Rich/eccentric people are very strange. Apparently this was his wish and had something to do with his deep faith.

Maybe he thought his body would be in better shape when he reached the golden gates.
