Default Train Derailment in Ingelwood in Alyth rail yard

https://mobile.twitter.com/C_DIG/sta...40919019794432

On transit now, so can't really post much more.

302 is seriously delayed , but seems to be running now on its regular route in downtown.

The derailment is in Inglewood just south of the old brewery (19th Ave and 15th Street if you want to google it). They're evacuating Inglewood south of 9th Avenue. I'm north of 9th Avenue, but the non-derailed part of the train that's derailed is sitting outside my livingroom window. Cool!

I'm thinking the only reason we're not being evacuated is that all these people trying to leave will only screw traffic worse than it already is.

Doesn't sound as serious as of this update.

At approximately 5:30 pm today the Calgary Fire Department responded to a report of a train derailment in Alyth Yard just north of 19 avenue and 15 street SE. Currently firefighters are investigating six overturned tanker cars and asking CPS to shut down roads including Blackfoot and 9 avenue. No homes are being evacuated at this time andthe Department will update as the incident continues.

Well if the cars were undamaged, as it seems they were, it would be a simple matter of pumping them dry and ordering in some cranes to get them right-side-up again. I know the rest of the train was moved at about 11:00 last night, so they made some pretty good progress getting things stabilized, it seems.

I wonder if this could have been caused by the absolutely terrible condition of that crossing at 15th Street. You almost need a monster truck to traverse the tracks there.
