Default Rogers One Number

https://www.rogersonenumber.ca/welcome/?locale=en_CA

Gotta say I'm a skeptical guy tech wise and this thing is amazing.
  • Free Canadian calls and texting
  • All your contacts can by synced including pictures
  • Video calling to someone else on a PC with One Number
It's amazing. I've been texting from my PC all night and since incoming texts are free on most plans, this means I don't have to worry about message limits. And texting from my keyboard is so much easier.

I tried the calling, and it's awesome. Simple and clear. What I found the most appealing is that so long as you're texting or calling Canada... there's no charges. Which I think means when your in America or overseas if you can get online you can text and call people with your contact list free. If so this is mind bottling to me.

10/10. Amazing job Rogers.

Oh and this is all free.

It's what is called a SIP phone solution.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sessi...ation_Protocol

Rogers uses a company called Counterpath for their implementation of it.

Update on this. The crooks at Rogers have very discreetly changed their TOS. Texting is now based on your plan. No more free outgoing from one number. I received 45 dollars in extra text charges from these gangsters on a 50 dollar plan that includes 2500 messages. My overage that warranted 45 dollars? A couple hundred messages. All in Canada.

I'm running out of words to describe the cell phone business in Canada. Crooked. Sideways. Criminal. It's just disgusting.

What does this mean? How is it different from before?

How could a plan that includes 2500 text messages be billed $45 extra (assuming you didnt go over)

when the service was introduced in feb of this year, you could text outgoing for free to a canadian number using RON. unlimited. now they've changed it so if you have 2500 outgoing in your plan, thats all you get from RON and your phone.

i went over my 2500 messages because now i was using RON to text a whole lot from my computer. ive used 2500 outgoing as my texting plan for almost 2 years and ive never gone over 2000, but since RON came online in feb ive started to text a lot more.

Lol at some arbitrary number to limit you to. Stupid Rogers . The fact It's the middle of 2012 and a person in Canada still has to effectively count their txt messages is hilarious and sad.

You can get unlimited text with Rogers. $20/month, as an add-on to my corporate plan anyway.

One Number worked well when I lost my phone a few weeks ago.

I thought adding "corporate plan" may indicate to you that it may not be the norm, I guess you over looked that. I am under the impression you don't like Rogers? I have never had an issue with them, why do you dislike them so much?

I just looked at the individual plans, they all come with unlimited messaging.

Because $20 for unlimited texting is ridiculous.

What does Telus or Bell charge on their corporate plans for unlimited messaging (I said texting, when messaging would be more accurate)? It may be the only option, I don't know. My plan doesn't include much text messaging, 250 incoming, unlimited received messages. Where I get my value is in long distance, where I save $100 a month, as it's included in the package.

Adding $20 for unlimited messaging is not ridiculous in that scenario is it?

If someone in there infinite wisdom has a better plan available, and some advice I am willing to hear it. I use One Number too, does any of the other wireless providers offer something similar?

Telus, Rogers, Bell they're all the same, they're all crooks. The way cell companies in this country gouge Canadians and the way the crtc protects them is brutal.

A plan with unlimited text messaging, 5GB of data, and about 500 min should be $40-$50/month. I would be happy with that.

But it hardly ever is.

Hello all,

I'm part of the social media team at Rogers and just wanted to clarify that Rogers One Number does in fact give you unlimited outgoing SMS/MMS. Incoming SMS/MMS is charged at regular rates and may vary depending on the package you subscribe to.

@Notorious Honey Badger - I'd be happy to PM you so I can help review your billed charges.

Cheers!
RogersKate

Kate I don't believe this to be the case anymore, I had a manager on the phone tell me they charge out as per your plan altho I have messaged you and if you could look into it that'd be great

From the One Number site

Quote:
Talk and send texts from your computer without deducting from your wireless plan.
It looks like the manager you spoke to has to get back into aversion therapy.
