The other side of H.G. Wells

With War Of The Worlds set to become the big summer blockbuster, it was interesting to see this morning this critical examination of the attitudes of H.G. Wells, one of my favourite authors, described here as a cad and a hatemonger during his life in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

How would Wells' career play out today with some of the comments and actions contained in this story?
