Default Photoshop question

I'm slowly teaching myself some tricks on PhotoShop and getting some pointers from a few designers at my office, but am stumped for an answer.

I'm running CS5, and would like to import a gif to frames so I can edit certain frames before re-saving as a gif. Initially there was a pop-up saying I can only do this in 32bit mode. I've overcome this by getting PhotoShop to open in 32bit mode.

My problem now is that when I choose "import frames to layers", the gif (or any other image files) are not highlighted, and I can't select them.

Any tips or short-cuts are appreciated.

hmmm, I just open the .gif file as I would any file. It shows all frames as layers. You can view the animation by clicking Window > Animation.

To save the file use Save for Web. File type .gif and make sure that Animation is checked.

As KTrain says, just open the .gif directly. But if for some reason that doesn't work, you can use VirtualDub to open the .gif, then save the file and an AVI. Then import to frames in Photoshop. BTW, Photoshop relies on Quicktime for some types of import actions.

Choose "Frames to Layers" in the Import menu, in the "File Name" box type *.* then hit enter. All your images and .gifs should be available now.

At least that's how it works in CS3
