Default Sunday Herald no more

Come the end of July Postmedia is killing publication of the Calgary Herald on Sundays. I guess this is not shocking, but Sunday is about the only time that I do pick up a newspaper anymore...will go out for breakfast with the g'friend and split up the paper while the food is on the way.

I really didn't like the Sunday paper that much but I will miss having something to bring in Sunday mornings to read.

Saturday and Sunday are really the only days I read the paper version, but I guess most of what is in the Sunday paper is really opinion pieces and special features that could be published on any day.

That's fracking stupid. The Sunday Paper is the best paper to get a summary of the weeks news.

The Herald has been pretty terrible for a while now, but they've been losing the war with the Sun for years now.

you could argue that "any day" includes being published on the internet as soon as it's up

They need to end that "Community" paper they seem to jam in my mailbox once a week, filling it completely. Goes straight from the mail box to the blue box. If I wanted part of a dead tree delivered to me I would subscribe.

I wonder how long it will be before printed periodicals and flyers and stuff become the subject of environmentalists' scorn.

The only reason that is even remotely true is because the Sun is in a physically easier to read format. If the Herald were to adopt the same size I would presume that their readership would jump significantly.

The Hearld has gotten worse and worse but can at least be trusted as a reputable source to get the news from compared to Sun Media. The Calgary Sun is as bad as it gets from top to bottom

I don't understand why newspapers print those huge pages and then fold them up like origami. Reading the Herald is downright annoying. Unfold the beast, find your article, then fold it back up so that it fits on your table near your food, or else so that you can hold it while sitting in a waiting room. Either way, leaving it unfolded to read is awkward. But the fun doesn't end there. Most of the time the article is either broken up on to two different pages, or else the article overflows onto the lower portion of the folded page.
And once you're past all those annoyances, the next stop on the merry go round is finding the next section you want to read. You've already put it down and kind of messed it up, now the sections are disorganized and Sports is nowhere to be found.

I can't believe they're still in business, TBQH. I stopped subscribing to the Sun 10 years ago when it became easy to get news online. And the only reason the Sun got my money was because I like to read while I eat and the Herald requires a boardroom table to read.

Being one of the guys who delivers those papers on weekends i agree. Mainly because we have to stuff every single paper with those god damn things. Please ditch those things for Christs sakes.

The Herald is a part of Postmedia, a major media conglomorate, so the likelyhood here is the quality of the paper will only get worse as they scale back. Not that the Herald is some great paper, but its still not the Sun.

I could get behind that cause.

Too bad - there's something civilized about reading the weekend papers with a nice breakfast and cup of coffee.

Who reads the print copies in this day and age. The online version is so much better and you don't have all the print to recycle when you're done reading it.
