THE FLORIDA PANTHERS NAME DAVE PENNEY (MJK123) NEW GENERAL MANAGER
For Immediate Release
Saturday August 21, 2004
Corner Brook, NL – Panthers owner Moose Lexington announced today that Dave Penney (mjk123) has been named the General Manager of the Florida Panthers.
”Penney brings a spark to this organization that has been lacking for some time now,” said Lexington. “We feel that with his background, he will have these athletes in tip-top shape and performing 100% on the ice for him every single night.
Coming from a small logging community of approximately 20,000 citizens, Dave has always expected a lot from people, and the same can now be said about his players.
“I am excited,” said Penney. There is definitely a strong foundation to build on here in Florida.” But with any organization, changes need to be made. After a very disappointing 2003/2004 campaign, Penney is looking to pick the Panthers off of the CPHL floor while making them into a serious contender. “I have a plan,” said Dave, “and it involves acquiring good, young, skilled players.” “Without a solid core of guys to build around, you really don’t have much.”
“We are extremely lucky to get Penney” said Lexington. “There was another ‘music-oriented’ team that was trying desperately to get him but we made him an offer he just couldn’t refuse” said Lexington with a smile.
“I am a very patient person and I won’t be rushing into to things quite yet,” said Penney. “Once I sit down with all the players and find out where they fit into this organization, I will be ready to juggle the team as I see fit.” “ I have been given an opportunity of a lifetime here in Florida, and I have ever intention of making the Panthers very successful.”
