It debuted last night and I forgot!
Sounds pretty cool though. Old bands (primarily from the 80s) compete for a chance for one more huge gig.
Last night featured Loverboy, Arrested Development, Tiffany, C.C. Penniston and Flock of Seagulls. Each band plays two songs - one old song of their own, and a cover of a current hit.
Upcoming eppys feature bands like Wang Chung, Haddaway, Vanilla Ice, Tommy Tutone, The Knack, etc.
Pretty cool concept I think...but as mentioned I missed it. Did anyone catch it? How was it?

I only flipped back and forth and all I saw was Flock of Seagulls (both of their songs) and Tiffany doing her old one (I think we're alone now).
Tiffany wasn't too bad, but her boobs got all floppy and she was wearing a shirt that made that very clear.
Flock of Seagulls were awesome. That is they were awesome in the sense that they were really bad. The singer/keyborad player got pretty big, and has super long hair (man I wanted to see the old doo). For their cover song they did that "All the way down" song (Ryan Cabrerra I think), but man did they suck. It sounded like bad Karaoke. I think they even played it on CJAY this morning, it was gold.

the funny thing is, as soon as I heard about this show I thought man this is one for JiriHrdina
I'm shocked you missed it
I saw the 'artistes' do their original numbers, but not the covers
it was good, in a terrible car crash kind of way
Loverboy played Working for the weekend and were going to cover Hero by Enrique Iglesias
cece peniston played whatever her song was called that was a hit, and was going to cover Faith Hill
Flock of Seagulls played I ran (duh) and as mentioned covered some song I've never heard of
Arrested Development played Tennessee, can't remember what they were going to cover
Tiffany was set to cover kelly Clarkson

Flock of Seagulls were fine doing "I Ran" but were atrcious seeing "On the Way Down". They added the new wave 80s style to the song and you're right, saying it sounded like band karaoke!
CeCe Peniston did well.
I look forward to hearing "My Sharona" and "867-5309"! :P

I can't believe I missed this show, I have to work Thursday nights.
Loverboy is one of the great Canadian bands, it's tragic one of it's members drowned in Vancouver a few years back.
Anybody know where I can find the episode? I hope this show gets popular enough so that it'll be distributed.

Judging from the age of many CPers from the High School thread, I don't expect many of these young'uns to remember any of these 80's artists....
I saw a lot of ads for this show and am ashamed to admit it caught my eye - c'mon it's Vanilla Ice! The concept seemed cool - bring back a bunch of has beens from the 80's and see if they still had their chops in the here and now.
The bad part of that: it involves has beens from the 80's Observation #1: thou shall gain 30 pounds when you fall out of the public limelight. Observation #2: Baldness is directly proportionate to the amount of hairspray you used in the 80s. Flock of Seagulls was sick to look at.
To sum it up, it was like watching bad karaoke - it interests you more in watching how bad they can be versus how good they are.
I though CC Penniston still sang great though, although Arrested Development wasn't bad. Not sure I'll go out of my way to watch it again - although when Vanilla Ice shows up I'll watch for curiosity's sake!

I'm just curious if Vanilla ice is gonna do the original version of Ice Ice Baby, or if he'll do hte newer version of it (Too Cold), which is actully not too bad, that is if you're looking for a song that makes you want to break something (if you don't pay atention to the lyrics that is), because he did put out another album that was pretty hard core (thrasher type stuff). He even did a song with the bloodhoud gang (Pre crappy discovery chanel song). Long Live Rob Van Winkle (that's Vanilla Ice).

CNBC typically rebroadcasts the NBC reality shows (well at least the apprentice and the Contedor). I'm gonna check tonight and see if there doing the same with this one.
Based on feedback in this thread it sounds like this isn't quite as good as Bands Reuinted - a great VH1 show where the producers would track down and try to get 80s bands to reunite for one more show - bands like The Motels, ABC, English Beat, etc. Great show.

I think that Tiffany and Cece Penison are actually better singers now that they're a bit more mature. But you can see that the years have taken a toll on Mike Reno's voice. Still I have to watch next week with Tommy Tutone, and Vanilla Ice. Does anyone know what song Haddaway sung back in the dance crazy early 90's? It wasn't that song from Night at the Roxburry "Baby Don't Hurt Me" was it? Our resident dance music geek isn't at work today.

Tiffany, from 15 year old jailbait to a 35 year old MILF.
At least the years have been good to her. The lead singer from Flock of Seagulls looked like he crawled out of the dumpster. The wife had it on last night, I was hoping it would get better. But it just got worse.

"What Is Love" (damn the speed of JiriHrdina)
CC's song (don't know if it's the one she sang last night) was "Smile"
I'm upset I missed Arrested Development. Hope there's a torrent somewhere.
I have been told that Tiffany covered "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson.

I listen to alot of 80's so I had to watch. Fans voted for the singer/group that they felt were the best and Arrested Development won at the end of the night. Although I was all pumped up to hear Mr. Wendal and they let me down. I thought the show was actually pretty good and look forward to Vanilla Ice next week.

Are you serious? At first I thought she had paid a visit to the plastics fairy, but decided it was all home grown... see Observation 1 above.
She wasn't fugly but I sure wouldn't bestow MILF status to her....

I'm cheering for Tommy Tutone!!!
Damn the guy in Sylvan Lake who got the 887-5309 phone number. I actually asked for it too when I set up my account with Telus 3 years ago.

Yeah, the Knack opened the show pretty good, but trying to sing "Are you gonna be my girl" up 4 octives didn't exactly work. Vanilla Ice is still in pretty good shape, and you could tell he feels like an ass looking back at the time when he did the Ice Ice Baby thing. But he was the most energetic performer last night. Tommy Tutone guy can't sing worth a damn anymore, but good for him that he's a computer programmer now so he has that day job he shouldn't quit.

I was hoping Vanilla was going to sing Go Ninja Go Ninja Go. I actually really liked his cover song of Survivour by Destiny's Child.
