Question Michelin Primacy MXV4 Tires

This is a pretty specific question so if any tire expert or anyone who could lead me in the right direction that'd be great.

I had a set of 4 tires installed (I think a set of Michelin Energy tires) a few years back, long story short one of them blew up essentially and I want to get it replaced.

I had the original tires done at Costco and they said they only had one set of tires in stock that were compatible with my car (The Primacy MXV4).

Now I only want to replace the one tire (even though I know that's not good practice) while keeping the other 3 the same (Energy tires), when I called yesterday one of them told me it wasn't recommended but it wouldn't be a big deal to do. Today another person at Costco said that Michelin sent out a memo saying not to do it period.

Just wondering if anyone could shed light on this, because I really do only want to change one tire.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

some places will shave the new tire to match the tread depth of the worn tires

consider looking on E-Bay for a used MXV4 Tire

Not a good idea to use one dissimilar tire on a car. You can get away with it on dry pavement, but when it turns wet or snows, the difference in traction will cause unpredictable results. If you want to save money, you can get away with replacing just two tires, put the new ones on the front assuming you have a FWD car. But it is ideal to have the same rubber on all 4 corners.

The Primacy MXV4 is an excellent tire BTW, quiet, long lasting, decent grip in all conditions. I have a set on one of my cars and am very happy with them, best tire I've owned I think.

A note on Costco, I have talked to several people that had a poor experience getting tires mounted there, although I have no first hand experience myself. The last time I bought a new set of tires I went to Canadian Tire, IMO that is one thing they do well. The price was about the same as Costco as well (they were on sale).
