Default Horror Movie Recommendations

I'm always on the look-out for a good horror movie as I haven't been able to find a movie that has actually scared me since I was a kid. They usually just make me laugh at how silly they are.

Any recommendations for good horror movies from anywhere in the world? I hear there are good Japanese, Thai, etc. horror movies. Any good 3D horror movies?

I would probably lean toward something more of the spooky/paranormal genre rather than cheap thriller/gore.

I watched the trailer for that. I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of the "found video" genre like the Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, etc. It's kind of hard to suspend my disbelief for those but maybe it's because I haven't seen a really good one yet. I'll look into V/H/S.

I did watch The Conjuring in Theatres and enjoyed that.

My personal favorite is A Nightmare on Elm Street (the original).

I second 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'. Not only is that my favourite horror movie of all time, it might be my favourite movie of all time.

Despite some 80s cheese and a few effects that haven't aged well, it still works. Brilliant film.

Another vote for the Conjuring.

A movie called Session 9, although some would be hard pressed to call it a horror.

As always, The Exorcist, if you haven't seen it, do it.

The original Friday the 13th, made me stop swimming in lakes for a while I'll tell ya hat much.

The thing. Both the original and the remake were very good.

Event Horizon. Space Horror!

Leviathan.

Dawn of the Dead.

28 days (and weeks) later.

Pet Cemetary

I also really enjoyed Rob zombies takes on the Halloween franchise. Both of them. I know more than a few who hated the second one though.

Predator.

Halloween has always been my favorite franchise.
The pre-Rob Zombie ones.
Speaking of Rob though, I also loved the Devils Rejects

I don't have a weak stomach at all, but thought Hostel 2 was fairly disturbing.
Also, for fans of the TV show Suits, it'll give you a chance to see Louis Litt, pre-lawyer fame.

The Shining
The Conjuring
Jacob's Ladder
Rosemary's Baby
You're Next
Cabin in the Woods
Alien
Let the Right One in
Sleepaway Camp
Poltergeist
The Changling

I love horror movies, but the traditional slasher movie (Jason, Mike Myers, etc) never really did much for me.

The Conjuring, for sure.

A movie that really bothered me when I was much younger was, The Entity.
1981, Barbara Hershey.
