VMRcanada has it at a wholsesale value of $15650 and retail of $18425. I'd say for a private sale your price is a little high but thats the whole point to leave negotiation room.

You have to have an account with blackbook, then you just punch in the details and it gives you the value. I have a couple of friends in the industry, not in it myself.

I was in the industry for 18 years and they are usually selling at dealers for about 18-19000 when they have under 80,000 kms. It just seems weird that there has been no action on this thing when the same units with more mileage are selling like crazy at the dealers.

The black book is usually just a rough guide.

Hey 93Hound,

I am looking at selling my wife's Escape, same year, same model, same km, no sunroof.

We brought it in to metro ford for an oil change and assessment and they said they would give us between 10k - 12k and that we could probably get 14k - 16k in a private sale.

Thought you might like to know.

I see you have it listed at $17,399 right now on Kijiji. For the $400 that you'd obviously be willing to negotiate down to and then some, I think you should list it at $16,999 at the absolute most so its in the sixteen thousands and not the seventeen thousands.

I assume they go for higher at the dealer because people are lured by the financing rates. It's built into our culture to finance vehicles, even used ones.

I instantly get my back up with ads that advertise lady driven as a positive selling feature. Not because I think women are bad drivers, but it just sounds cheezy.

I once had a dealer trying to sell me a lady owned and driven Trans am. When I commented on the headers he said that her boyfriend put them on to improve the gas mileage. Right.

(BTW, I'm sure your wife is a great driver.)

no big deal speed. She is a great driver. I said it cause mosty women don't normally bag the crap out of the car. I could be wrong though. Won't be the first or the last time.

We got a 2009 escape in September for $15,000 from the dealer. Sport Package, with tow stuff. . .

I'd also reteriate that not many people are shopping for cars with $15,000 cash (we did, but the gf is weird), so that's going to hurt you. Given a similar price from a dealer someone would likely go to a dealer and finance.

Can't think of much else to offer.

I think Ford Escapes are pretty much commoditized there's so many of them. So if you price it just below all the other equivalents you should be able to sell it. Even though some people rip Fords they seem to be a popular model that the average joe/jane will buy.

Good luck!
