Tux Rental Recommendations
Recently I was in a wedding party and the groom had us rent tuxes from Moore's. I'm not any kind of suit snob but it was a pretty awful experience. The shirts were a ridiculous one-size-fits-all that I was swimming in, the jacket wasn't fitted properly but was "close enough" that Moore's wouldn't fix it, etc.
I know pretty much nothing about this but I'd love some recommendations of other places to rent tuxes from if you had a good experience.

I used Black & Lee for my first wedding and for some other event - the tux & fit were excellent. Not sure if they are still in business.

That is the opposite of my experience - we used Moore's for my wedding a few years back, and the lady who we all dealt with at North Hill was professional, fun, and very determined to have everything fit perfectly for all of the wedding party.

+1 for Black & Lee. Used the one at Northmount/Northland. Was 2 years ago, but don't remember having any issues at all.

I recommend buying your own tux - not a lot more than renting one, and you will wear it many times in the future.

Black & Lee is what I'm going with for my wedding. I liked the experience when we went in to get fitted, can't tell you about the end result yet because it hasn't happened yet

Assuming you can avoid the nachos & cheese for the next 10 years. I don't know - I've only ever worn a tux twice.

I'd thought about this as well but assumed it would be much more expensive (at least, I thought it would be in Canada). Can you recommend a tailor?

I have worn a tux twice. High School grad and my Wedding. Even if you are in a wedding party for someone else, they are going to want you to have the same tux as the other guys. Can't really support buying a tux.

happy to hear this, that's where we are getting tuxs for my wedding. The first fitting and consultation seemed pretty good, also nice because we have people coming from Ontario so they can go right to moores to get fitted

Moore's can go die in a fire. My buddy used them for his wedding last year and they were the absolute worst (disorganized, rude, and more!).
I'll put a good word in for The Wedding Shoppe (sp?) down south, another friend used them back in 2005 and it was a great experience versus Moore's. Although I believe they were more money than what Moore's was.

Everything about my Moore's experience was fine, up until the tux arrived.
I thought the guy was joking when he said "our shirts are one-size-fits-all". That's some serious corner-cutting, imo. You really can't provide a couple different sizes of shirts?
Pants are the same - they don't take legs in IIRC.

I'll second the dissapointment with Moores.
Only plus out of the deal was at the time they had a promo for the groom that with 5 or more tux rentals you either got the groom's tux rental free, or the groom got $300 towards a suit purchase. Since the tux rental was $150, and I wear the odd suit here or there, I went with the suit. Used it on a sale day and got an originally $550 suit for $50. Not too shabby.
But the tux rental process was extremely disorganized (doesn't help that 95% of the employees are highschool students who don't know anything about tailoring, and the manager was a jackass).
I've also had bad experience for a buddy's wedding at TipTop. All the orders had at least 1 item that was the wrong size; not measured wrong, they actually sent an item that was a different size than on the order. Which is a huge pain in the ass when you're picking them up 2 days before the wedding and the response is "we don't have time to fix it".
Anyway... I'll second going to one of the bridal shops. I got my grad tux at... uh... the one by Costco in the south... forget what its called. They were good to work with and were reasonably priced. Didn't go there for the wedding because they were more expensive, but in the end it probably would have been worth it.

If the one-size-fits-all thing at Moore's is true, things have changed since 2008. I was measured up and down (no "special inseam" measure, sadly) and I definitely had a different size shirt and pants than my groomsmen.
Also, like Flameskickass, I had two groomsmen coming in from out of province so they were able to get measured locally and have the tux waiting for them here.
FlamesKickAss - we worked with a young lady named Tara at North Hill who was pretty cool. Assuming she hasn't moved on, try to get her to help you out.

If I recall... they weren't "one size fits all" for us... but they were very limited in sizing - was just small, medium & large. So none of them fit all that well.
