[GDT]Toronto Blue Jays At Cleveland Indians April 7th, 8th
After winning the longest game in MLB history on the opening day, the Jays will have a day off before continuing their series against the Indians. Considering the other thread jumped from 10 pages to 18 in one day, I liked the suggestion of a series thread, so I figure why not try this out for a while and see how interested people are over time.
The next matchup will see Brandon Morrow take the mound against Ubaldo Jimenez, with the finale being the rookie verses the old guy Joel Carreno Vs Derek Lowe.

Series threads sound like a great idea, if people continue to contribute. Also....a Derek Lowe sighting!

Looking forward to seeing how Morrow looks tomorrow, I have pretty high hopes for him this season. Would be nice to see him use all his tools and become a legit front line pitcher by seasons end.

A good idea for a series thread. All great things have small beginnings-Senge.
I was a little surprise that Alvarez is not 3rd in the rotation...maybe injured?

Who is Joel Carreno?
When did the Jays get him? Was he acquired in a trade? FA? drafted?

I believe in the Jays.

I'm not 100% on either of these answers, but I believe Alvarez stayed in the 4th spot just to keep his spring training regiment the same. As for Carreno, I think he was signed out of the Domincan a few years ago and has worked his way through our system.

It also makes sense to have Alvarez 4th to pitch the home opener.
The Jays will go to a 4 man rotation after Carreno's, start till April 21st. Hopefully Mcgowan can get healthy soon

Yes, so am I. Last year, he had such great outings at times followed by inconsistencies after, it was frustrating. He came around near the last month or so pitching and holding the line better. He has a high era based on some of hisinconsistent late innings that really fall apart at the seams. This was probably due to stamina issues and not pacing himself well given his role as a fulltime starter. In spring training, he started to throw more off speed stuffs. He was throwing more curveballs. Glad to see that in his repetoire. He is a stikeout king and throwing off speed pitches will definitely screw up the big hitters (I hope).

Mmm...I guess Drabek is still coming around. McGowan, I really want to see him start and do well this season. He will probably not get many starts and as well not go as deep into innings.

Drabek will be part of the 4 man rotation but him and Mcogwan are both going to be pushed later on in the season by the farm

Still not happy that our season opened on a Thursday afternoon, and yet no game on a holiday Friday afternoon. Watching the Yanks/Rays now, what a 'pitcher's duel'...

I think Drabek will be used only in 5th starter spots, I think they want to handle him with Kid gloves, otherwise he'd be starting tomorrow.
Excited to see what Careno can do, it's his ball to run with until he falters - huge opportunity.

I think that was what the Jays had planned to do and what most of us predicted, but then Cecil looked like he was playing softball and Mcgowan got hurt. Considering the Jays plans to use a 4 man rotation for a good part of this month, he's far from a "spot" #5 starter. Laffey got destroyed in his final starts and in the Vegas Season opener, so the Jays really don't have anyone to call up without rushing youth for youth. Drabek has a spot in this rotation for the season and it's his to lose

This part of your post makes no sense. Why would he possibly start tomorrow? Regardless of how they want (or wanted) to "handle" Drabek, Morrow is much more experienced, much more proven and quite frankly, a much better pitcher then Drabek is at this point in time. Even if Drabek had a better Spring then he did have, he would be still solidly below Morrow in the rotation, no questions asked.

Sorry, not tomorrow, I meant in the spot Careno will take in the rotation.

No changes to the Jays lineup today. Mcgowan's foot is getting better but shoulder still hurting, no timetable for him to start throwing again.
