I gotta wonder who would buy something that looks like that, without having a clue what it is?
edit: For the record if you decide, like I just did, to plug random search terms into google in hopes of getting an image match, just ... don't. trust me..

Ok, since I need to sleep, I have put the power of reddit into action on this one.

The grey parts have what look like finger grip things, but they are positioned in a way that it looks like it's meant to be grasped with 1 hand only. The ends of the grey handles have semi-circular parts to them that look like they would fit around a hose or a cable of some sort. The shinier, lighter grey parts look like they would lock the handles down. I agree that the red part looks like it has grippy things for threading something into the end.
 So basically, it's an I don't know.

			1) Keep it away from bright light, 2) Don't get any water on it,
 3) Never, never ever feed it after midnight.

Am I the only one wondering two things!

Why you didn't ask your friend what it's for?
And wasn't it packaged?

Thats what I was thinking, only just for lawns. odd that the hose would screw in the top though.

I did ask him what it was for. He has no idea, either. He got it at a junk store exactly 'as is' (you can see the price tag on the red bit) with no other markings. He got it because it "looked neat" and was only a couple of bucks.

A tree watering spike? That's kinda what I thought but the hose end looks a larger than a regular hose, almost the size of plastic drains (1" to 1 1/2").
