Default Marty gets his own Philly

Flyers that is....

Marty Brodeur was traded to the Flyers today to help bolster their lineup for a long playoff run! We wish him well and will pull for him all the way through to the finals.

from: Philadelphia Flyers

1. Backstrom, Niklas (G) NHL
2. Connauton, Kevin (D) AHL

from: Calgary Flames

1. Brodeur, Martin (G) NHL

So Cheese takes the rapist mentality from his previous deal and puts it to work on Philly here? Wow, I don't understand why the Flyers make this move.

Hats off to Cheese on this one.

Good trade for both teams. If Brodeur can help the Flyers win in the playoffs, it's a win for the Flyers. If not, well Joe has more than enough things on his team to go out and get another one without much issue.

The Flames get a decent goalie who has missed a lot of time this year and a solid but unspectacular D-man prospect both of which help for next year and beyond.

Flames win this one all the way. Backstrom may have taken a step back this year, but Brodeur will never be that level of goalie again.

Marty is THE goalie as far as Im concerned. Without him the Flames would be bottom of this league.
I'm still not sold on the fact he will retire this year, I think he will be back for at least another 2 years, his NHL season has been solid.
Backstrom is a question mark as well, he started well then got injured so who knows how he will rerate.
I like Connauton. I think he will be a decent dman down the road and gives me another chip to play when teams are trimming their playoff fat later.

The trade is certainly a "now" deal for the Flyers. If he gets the right mix of playing time, which is almost always, Marty can win games all by himself.

I'm basically trying to get a goalie who can win for me. Messed up by moving Cam Ward, tried Kipper didnt work, tried Backstrom it didnt work. Now trying Marty.

As for as moving forward, I've got couple of young netmiders on the roster in Bobrovsky and Gustavsson as well. Also have ton of assets to move if I wana grab another goalie.

This is the last kick at the can........next move would be canning of Mr. Schum lol.

Bizarre. Cheese tried this with me earlier this season and I thought he was crazy to think I would fall for it then. I'm astounded he found a partner, never mind that the Flyers added to Backstrom!
