Default Pathetic Calgarian May Yee Polegato. Gets Nothing for Destroying her Dog

What a joke this penalty is . A $5000 fine and a 10 year ban from owning pets. Look at what she did with a 2X4!

Spoiler!

May Yee Polegato was charged on March 17, 2011, after striking her dog Jinx about six or seven times with what appeared to be a two-by-four, Nichols said.
The dog, which is not aggressive, was taken to a veterinary clinic with potential life-threatening injuries and authorities were called.

sick, that is disgusting. Animal abuse laws are no where near as tough as they should be.

Animal abuse laws are tougher than human abuse laws.

That's actually a very stiff penalty, all things considered.

If I hit you with a 2x4 6 or 7 times, I would get more than a $5000 fine.

I wish they had published her picture with the article. Not for vigilante purposes but so she could face a public shaming so intense that she'd ride out of town on a rail.

Animal Abuse laws are a tough issue.

Do they only apply to pets? When is it okay to harm an animal that maybe a pest?

Humans put a lot more value on the lives of certian animals then they do on others which makes imposing tough penalties difficult. There is also the fact that these are still animals we're dealing with, and they can be aggressive even if there was no prior history. Where does that come into play?

Now don't get me wrong. I think this is disgusting and that person should be banned from owning pets period. I just think putting super strict laws into place for animal abuse might get messy in situations where you don't know the facts.

It's never okay to abuse any animal.

If I ever saw someone beating a dog with a 2x4 they'd be hauling that person away in a body bag. How anyone could do that to a defenceless dog is beyond me.

I'm just saying dealing with animals isn't always a black and white issue.

Cases like this where its obviously constant abuse, yeah, there should be hell to pay but I'm sure there are a lot of cases that are dealt with that are not so cut and dry.

So a one off incident of abuse is OK?

I think those who are against animal abuse (the vast majority) don't make any distinction for "certain animals."

Not sure what you think is a pest animal. Gophers perhaps, destroying grain fields? They shouldn't be abused either. They may need to be dealt with (culled), but it can be in a humane way.

I'd be very interested under what scenario you see abuse as "okay".

I can't even wrap my mind around how someone could do that to anything, animal or human. What kind of anger & violence must be inside her to be capable of doing that...

Please put spoiler tags around that photo. I didn't need to see that right away. Awful.

Isn't it only a puppy? it doesn't look very big. I want to puke after viewing that initial picture.

Was a there a nail attached to the 2X4? how can it rip the skin to shreds like that without breaking every bone in the dog?
