At 11:15 a weak tornado touched ground for 3 minutes in a location about 3 kilometres southwest of Breton. Another funnel cloud was spotted at 11:42 near Airdrie. This one did not reach the ground. Conditions are favourable for funnel clouds this afternoon in the western sections of this region. It is possible that other brief weak tornadoes may also occur.

I was outiside at around 4:00 and it started to pour rain. I noticed that the rain had a foul smell to it. It was very odd.

Didn't notice any funnel clouds though.

Well I went out llloking this afternoon and came up with nothing. Drove from south on 22 all the way to Olds. There was a really big cell up there but no rotating action unfortunatly.

Maybe tomorrow we'll have the same chance to see one.

EDIT: And just after I posted that I read "
A TORNADO WAS REPORTED TO HAVE TOUCHED DOWN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AT 8:30 PM ABOUT 20 KILOMETRES NORTHEAST OF COCHRANE. IT HAS SINCE DISSIPATED." I was considering going back that way and hanging out for a bit. I guess I should have.

The tornado watch is back. Simons Valley had one touch down at about 3:50.

An area of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms over southwestern Alberta is expected to give generally 30 to 50 mm of rain this evening and overnight with some areas expected to see upwards of 75 mm especially in heavier thunderstorms.

At 9:00 PM two funnel clouds were observed just southwest of Calgary. At 9:15 funnel clouds were observed south of Olds. None of these touched the ground. The funnel cloud activity should diminish with sunset.

The conditions are favourable for the development of other funnel clouds through the afternoon.

Alot of you probably think its weird, but I'm one of those storm buffs.

I love watching a good lightning show, and I find tornados pretty intense. I've yet to see one live, but i'd love to from a safe distance.

Well no luck for me again tonight. Went out west and a bit south but not far south enough. Pretty heavy rain around Bragg Creek. There's a hell of alot of rain comin in from the south east though.

They just used the Emergency System Thing on the radio about 10 min's ago or so, but not for Calgary.

Something about I think for Waterton, Claresholm and some other place that there is too much rain, and rivers may flood. Even heard something about there being so much rain, that they might have to let some of the water from the Old Man River Dam out.

Willow Creek actually. South of Nanton down to the Fort MacLeod area.

The most interesting thing about that is that the only radio station that didnt broadcast the message was Eagle 100.9. Seems to me that the station out of High River would be far more relevent to that message than Calgary stations would be.

Calgary and most of the southern Alberta also has a heavy rainfall warning. 50-80mm expected in the city.

Yah....

They just did another warning, a bit after 5. Saw this one on TV (not sure if the 1st warning was on TV, but I would guess so).

Also saw some footage at High River. You'd be lucky if you could fit a hair between the water and the bridge that the train goes over....

Man...does that bring back NOT so good memories.

In 96 I had just purchased a business on May 1 ( IIRC) and the "100 year flood" came on May 6.

Got a call at 6 Am at my house in Calgary with the line of... "you want the good news or the bad news"?

I of course was still dead to the world so i swore at the caller and said "what do you mean?"

"Well the merchandise/finacial records are floating in 6' of water, but the building is still standing."

I was there in about 20 minutes and couldnt believe my eyes...as i had left the night before at 7 or so and nothing was happening.

I guess i should of realized ..."high River"...hmmm...who woulda thunk it? :unsure:

That flood of 95 was something else. I remember the water being so high that they closed the bridges in Lethbridge. I was stuck at home on the westside and I couldn't get to work. Shucks! They opened the bridges up just in time for us to go to the bar though.

If anyone could provide a better link I would appreciate it. I couldn't find much in the way of pictures from the 1995 flood.

Yup, the great flood of '95. I was living in Medicine Hat at the time and they closed all the bridges there too. All the kids that lived on the other side of the bridge from the schools got to go home early. Us unlucky ones who lived on the same side got stuck having to stay at school for the whole day, like a bunch of suckers.
