ALL ABOARD!

$22.99 is pretty steep but I've never played it before so I'm not sure how long it would take to play.

Way too long.
I would like to play it again. I won a battle I had no business being in and it saved and jumped me right into the next battle. I couldn't re-do any battles to gain enough EP to level up as I was forced to play the second battle. All I could do was abandon the game or start over.

What a great game this was. Never finished but boy did I restart it a lot of times.
Those Calculators were overpowered

I put FFT up there with Baldur's Gate II and GTA3 for best games EVER. I have been waiting for this one.... but at that price I might just wait for one of the inevitable sales. That price tag is probably meant for the "gotta have it first" people.
I agree... Calculator's rocked. You could always find SOMETHING that would smite the entire board... even if it was prime numbers.

Decent game, but definitely $13.00 more than it should be.

I disagree. If I didn't already have it for the PS1 and PSP, I'd pay $100 for it. I seriously enjoyed it that much.
Unfortunately they ruined FFT2 by making it too kid friendly. It's an adult tactics game with a children's story, theme and graphics.

Fair enough.
I'd pay more than $23 for FF6, I guess I didn't enjoy Tactics as much as you.

I <3ed that game until you got T.G. Cid. Then it became EZ-Moad.
But I do remember there were a couple of "Trap Battles."

This game used to be a pretty rare game on the PS1 until they re-released it as a greatest hit. I remember paying $80 for this and $95 for FF7 at that computer place in Market Mall (Compucentre?). Awesome game, definitely top 5 on the original Playstation.

Next time i have a flight, this is getting bought. I have had 3 different versions of it so far, do not regret one penny of the 250$+ i have spent on this title.

So this a turn based strategy game using tiles? Similar to Vandal Hearts that's available on XBox Live?

Yes, it is very similar to Vandal Hearts. But with a better background story. One difference is that with Vandal Hearts, you couldn't make EVERYONE a single class, such as a Knight. In FFT anyone can be anything pretty much. You can make the Hero a black mage, a Knight, a Calculator, a Summoner.... whatever you want.
I did buy it this morning and played it for a bit. The battles seemed kinda intuitive. I had a bit of trouble rotating the grid. I would have thought that two fingers swinging around would make the grid spin, but no such luck. But you can use the multitouch to zoom in and zoom out on the grid.

Played the hell out of this game (PS1, PSP remake). One of my all-time favs for sure.
I know I seen Vandal Hearts listed in this thread, but is there any other similar games out like this on PS3/360 or maybe even Steam?

I don't know if this counts, but though it doesn't use tile squares, anyone who is into turn based strategy RPGs should check out the Valkyria Chronicles demo for the PS3. There's also the Disagea series, but that's a little too whacky, even for myself. And of course there is a Vandal Hearts game for download on the PS network.
If you have a PSP, Tactics Ogre is very similar to FFT, and is in fact, the game FFT took its inspiration from.
I was wondering, is this the War of the Lions remake? I found WOTLs much more polished than FFT.

If you mean is this the PSP FFT:WotL, with the animated cut scenes, then YES. Interesting that Square Enix went with what looks like more hand-drawn rough animation for the cut scenes than their traditional "lets see just how real we can make CGI look".
BTW - It's been out 3 days. I got my first Ninja this morning.
One thing I don't like is that you don't get any benefit for mastering a class. Just a pretty little gold star. Well, if you master a BUNCH of classes you can be a Dark Knight in this version, but that would take far more dedication than what I have.

I really liked FFT - until I hit the same thing you did. I must have tried to win 20+ times before giving up and never playing the game again.
The game is super punishing if you just want to pick it up and play it without planning your entire playthrough. If you screw up a character, you're boned and might as well restart.

I've heard that controls in the iPad are kinda poor. It looks pretty sweet on the Vita though and half the price, if you care about that.
