Default Because Vancouver isn't trashy enough already...

http://arts.nationalpost.com/2012/02...ut-on-april-4/

Canadians are about to get a whole new perspective on their laidback, west coast cousins when The Real Housewives franchise comes north of the border.

Following in the diamond-encrusted footsteps of Orange County, New York City, Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills and Miami, Vancouver will be getting its own version of the popular American show, Shaw Media announced Tuesday.

Debuting April 4 at 9 p.m. on Slice, the series will follow the lives of five of Vancouver’s most prominent women: free-spirited jet-setter Christina Kiesel, self-made businesswoman and fashionista Jody Claman, former pageant queen Mary Zilba, adrenaline junkie Reiko MacKenzie and winery owner and “luxury toy aficionado” Ronnie Seterdahl Negus.

Like its American counterparts, the series promises to highlight the life of Vancouver’s 1% and will feature the ladies dining at Vancouver’s top restaurants, partying at its finest galas and gallivanting in the most luxurious possible manner.

According to the press release, this season will see the cast “try to re-launch a singing career, manage a high-end clothing boutique, train for a mixed-martial arts green belt, celebrate a land-mark birthday and start up a wine label.”

“The Real Housewives of Vancouver is packed with all of the juiciest story lines, drama, power, wealth and glamour that viewers love about the huge, international hit franchise. Every episode will leave people wanting more,” Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President of Content for Shaw Media, said in a statement. “There’s an insatiable appetite for the Housewives‘ series and we are thrilled to launch the first ever Canadian edition.”

Following the special two-hour premiere, the series will settle into its regular time, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Slice.

I remember seeing an add for this and thinking "oh god". Then my roommate wondered why they wouldn't do Toronto or Montreal first and i replied by saying because Vancouver had the highest ###### ratio. I can only assume that translates to girl-###### as well.

I think I'll watch this show about as much as I watch the other Housewife Series.

Never.

BTW, who the fata are those women and should I feel poor for not knowing their names?

Give it a few more years and we will have real house wives of *insert redneck city/town*

Come to think of it, such a show might actually be entertaining.

Once again, Vancouver showing their incredible originality, and ripping off someone else's idea. But what could you expect from a Province that names one of their civic holidays, 'BC day'. God I hate that place.

I'm all for Vancouver bashing, but do you actually blame the city for copying a TV show? There's already a half dozen "Real Wives" shows, 18 versions of Storage Wars out there, and about 42 versions of Cake Boss.

That is a whole lot of screwed up plastic surgery right there. More like Zombie Housewives of Vancouver.

I had some UBC classmates that should be on that show. However, they spend more time in Palm Springs and Hawaii, than Vancouver.

I get why these people would go on a show like this (to get famous), but really don't understand the appeal of it if you're already loaded.
