Default Hell's Itch

So this is the second time in my life this has happened. When I was 10 ish years old, I had a really bad sun burn on my back, just over a day later the most unimaginable itch hit me, it was so bad that I was crying and delirious. Fast forward a few decades to today and it happened again just to a much lesser extent.

I'm now almost through the itch (a few online remedies seemed to help a bit) and after a few hours of googling I can't find anything that stops the itch other than time. It can be mitigated by Benadryl, peppermint oil and scorching hot showers.

Has anyone else dealt with this and what did you do?

Can try calamine lotion, in the first aid section

Also, careful with benadryl because it can dry your skin. As can hot showers.. The relief with these two may become temporary & cyclical

When I had chicken pox as a kid... one of the remedies was a bath with baking soda or corn starch added in.

Maybe a Hydrocortisone cream? There's OTC versions, but maybe a doctor can presscribe you stronger stuff?

Try rubbing mayonnaise and peanut butter on it. Then some cayenne.

Ive never heard this term before.

I assumed this thread was going to be about crotch rot or something resulting from Stampede week indiscretions.

I had a similar bad sun burn many years ago, smearing huge amounts of aloe on it seemed to help more than anything else I tried. Kind of messy though.

Nonsense. Clearly this man is suffering from skin failure. A graft is his only hope.

I managed to keep the itch under control yesterday, today it's 95% gone and feels like a regular sunburn itch now. I'll be doing a follow up with my family doctor later this week and see if he can prescribe me something in case this happens again.

I get bad sunburns all the time. Even though I take as much precaution as possible.

The absolute best thing I have ever encounter is Aloe Vera gel, it's kind of like green jello in a bottle. It goes on and cools the effected area and then hydrates it.

I get this from time to time.. its unbearable. It is literally the worst thing I have ever gone through. This is what you need to do.

a) purchase Peppermint essential Oil.
b) Have the hottest shower you can have without physically burning yourself. Yes, it sounds crazy having a hot shower while you are sunburnt, but after the initial burn it's soooo relieving.
c) After you have a crazy hot shower, get out and gently damp yourself dry (use pats, avoid rubbing) and then get some of that oil rubbed all over you.

You will absolutely smell like a candy cane, but let me tell you - it works. works SO well. This is the only thing I have found that has worked. Aloe, Calamine, booze/drugs - nothing comes close to even making you feel better.

I have read that this seems to be some sort of new allergy to the sun and it's why the skin gets crazy pissed off. If you find that you are swollen a bit, also take an anti-histamine.

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
