Any CPers into try? We have a cycling thread and golf thread, do we have any individuals into tri?

This could be a place to talk about events, local stores for gear, online deals, training, etc.

Anybody?

If you want a decent swimming workout: the conditioning swims at Glenmore pool (Just please stay out of my lane, I'm selfish and like lots of room!)

Still contemplating the Mount Royal tri.... If you want to put a CP team together, I'll do the swimming portion? I was top 4 last year in that leg (my bike and run stink) ad I'm sure I can come close to the fastest this year.

Didn't see this earlier, but I got into tris last year and am gonna be doing a whole bunch more this year (looks like 6 sprints and my first Olympic).

Only 34 days till my season opener at Mount Royal!

I pretty much have my race schedule figured out, but if anyone is able to recommend any good races near Calgary I'm all ears.

I've also seen it destroy some relationships. The amount of training involved leaves little time for others. I'm talking about hard-core triathletes.

I did the Wasa Triathlon in BC, Lake Miquelon Tri, and the Lake Chapparal Tri last year. All three are well run. Lake Chapparal was nice and warm.

I can definitely see that. Even some of my friends who are new to these things are really committed. One guy went for a 25km run Saturday, and a 66km bike ride Sunday. Really freaking impressive, but that stuff takes time.

That said I have 4 friends who are all skinny now or close to it thanks to triathlon training, and much healthier for it, so it was a great tool for them to set some goals and get in great shape.

There are a select few of us who get a diluted sense of enjoyment out of stressing the hell out of our bodies day after day.

When did triathalons become tris? I assume triathletes are so commited to training they can no longer afford to expend the energy to use the word "triathalon" any longer

Have marathons been reduced to mares yet? "hey are you running in the half mare next week. its gonna be epic!"

I am going to be doing a bunch of sprints this season. I have been training hard for well over a year and feel I am finally ready

Anyone ever done the Airdrie mini?

It's the endurance sport creed.
Why run when you can walk, why stand when you can sit, why sit when you can lay down.
I spend enough energy running, biking, swimming more than I really want to, why would I spend all that energy using useless syllables?

I wonder what the cut off is. I like the fact that I can go in a couple sprint tris per year with no formal training. I have always considered the ironman something I will do when my kids are older. I can completely see how extreme excessive training can be addictive and problematic. Besides does anyone really care what your splits are. At the end of the day these events can become quite selfish if you come to the point where you are planning family vacations around them

Planning family vacations around them is the way some people compromise.

Family wants a vacation, mom or dad wants to do Ironman Canada, spend a week or two in Penticton. One before, one after vs. dad/mom goes off on their own and then can't go on vacation with family. . . I heard about one pro who would give his wife and family a list of races available and they'd pick which ones they'd like to vacation around.

Pft... Ironman, you don't need to train that hard.
