I've had one of the worst days of my professional career. I'm a commercial writer at one of the radio stations in Red Deer. My job is to come up with creative ideas for local buisnesses for their commercials.
I found out last night that one of my very close friends through High School died last month from a Brain Aneurysm in her sleep. To make matters worse, she had just given birth two weeks earlier.
I can't get her out of my head. I love writting funny scripts, but it all just means nothing right now. I feel like an ass for not keeping up with her after grad. You have that small group of friends you maintain afer school, but it's nothing like being at high school and the hundreds of people you see on a consistant basis. You hope to bump into people in the mall, or at a hockey game or something, but you don't think about them until you see them.
I really don't know why I posted this. I guess it's one of those "gotta get it out" kinda things. Maybe with that whole "what school did you got to" thread, maybe start thinking about your friends more. Find out what they are doing now. Cause one day, you could find out they aren't around anymore.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that. Things take quite a while to get back to normal after news like that.
Personally, I've already lost two good friends and a brother-in-law before I was 25. None of them were easy, and every last one took a long time to get over.
The fact that she just had a baby is crushing too. Terrible news.

Sorry to hear about your sad news Prottotype. I understand completely the kind of guilt you are feeling, since I have had to deal with the loss of high school friends as well. Keeping in touch is easy when you spend eight hours a day under the same roof, it is only natural to lose sync with many high school friends when you begin to develop independent careers, families, and interests. Losing friends your age also gives you shivers when you realize you aren't as invincible as you thought when in school.
Perhaps there is some comfort in that she died in her sleep, and was not suffering for any long period of time, and it is a real blessing she did not have the Aneurysm while still carrying the baby, perishing both. Hopefully, her final days were filled with the joy of having her new child.
Random thoughts... I hope they help.

Sorry to hear about that prottotype, but don't beat yourself up over it. I know you feel bad but It's damn near impossible to keep in touch with everyone you knew from high school.
Tragic news though. I hope you feel better soon.

I know. There's a ton of people I graduated with that I am glad that I don't talk to anymore. But it's the people like her, the kind hearted, that I hate that I don't talk to anymore, or haven't talked to in the 7 years since grad.
To hear that she passed makes me feel like I've wasted the last 7 years when it comes to the friends I have had.
I know it's just my sadness of her passing. I'll get over it. I will however make a better attempt to keep in touch with those who were important to me in high school. Just something I gotta do.

Prottotype, very sorry to hear your news.
When the time is right, you should put some of your best memories of your friend to paper and save them as a gift for her child when he/she is older.
My parent's are both still alive (thankfully) but I still love hearing story's from their friend's about whent they were all younger together.
Edit: spelling

Sorry to hear, that is just a horrible story.
I can't even imagine being in the position of the father, you go from the highest of highs of having a child and then the lowest of lows. Life is tough.

Yeah, sorry to hear about that indeed. My best friend from highschool had Cistic Fibrosis and passed away three years ago at the age of 25. I had kept in touch, and had last e-mailed him from Brazil about a month before he passed. I hadn't heard back from him for some time and was going to try and e-mail him again, when my parents phoned me to say that his obituary was in the paper. I had seen him the previous Christmas and it was evident back than that his health was finally starting to fail. I always knew that day would eventually come so the shock wasn't so severe, but I can't imagine what it's like when it's totally unexpected.

I feel your pain man. A friend of mine died from brain aneurysm as well. This was last year...it was the hardest funeral I ever had to attend.

I'm very sorry to hear that. It is a very tough thing to go through, and while I wish I could add some some profound thoughts, none come. I lost my father, an aunt, an uncle and a high school classmate all under tragic circumstances before I was 22, and I still dont know what to say or how to react when these things happen.
If a trust fund is opened for the father and child, please post the details. My family was incredibly grateful for the support of the community when my aunt was murdered, and it would be nice to help out another family in need.

Man, that's rougher than rough. Just had a kid? Damn. I took your advice before you even gave it though, spent most of last weekend emailing back and forth with classmates from college that I haven't spoken to/seen in around 7 years. You're right though, don't let those friendships slip away. I'm doing what I can to revitilize a few of them.
Thoughts are with your lost friend Protto, that's tough.

A great friend of mine through school died tragically last year. We'd lost touch over the years and I found out too late to attend the service. I still get that sickening feeling of both grief and guilt.
When I wrote his parents to offer belated condolences I felt like a total ass. But their reply was amazing. Their son worked with kids and had touched a lot of lives, and they were so positive about all the good things that came from a too short life.
That was a great reminder to me to celebrate his life and I hope you can get to that place too.

I feel your pain aswell. Just last month I lost 3 friends I graduated with in a car crash. One of them was with me 80% of the flames games I would attend. After We graduated last spring we never really kept in touch except for the odd party and what not. It was hardest thing I ever had to deal with. The thing that helped me get through the difficult time was talking with a lot of people who I also graduated with. Also I know my friends wouldnt want any of us to be sad even though its natural and I know their in a better place now.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and anybody who knew your friend especially family.
