Local Phone Unlockers?
Please delete if this is illegal - I checked this out and it doesn't appear to be illegal so I didn't think it would cause a problem.
I've got an old Rogers phone (Sony w810i) that I want to unlock and use on Fido. Rogers won't do it for me since I'm not a current customer but advised that I'd be able to find someone in Calgary that does this. As I understand it, my phone only needs to have an unlock code looked up using my IMEI and I can unlock it myself with that code.
Can anyone recommend someone (preferably cheap since this seems like a mickey mouse service) who does this locally?

I unlocked one of these back in the day. (w810i)

That method should unlock it for a mere 5$. Same way I did it. It is a permanent unlock code that you will enter into the phone.

Turns out Rogers has removed my phone com their database, which means that it can no longer be unlocked via code since the code cannot be acquired. There's apparently a way to do it with a special cable. Anyone know someone who does this?

sony ericsson phones are difficult to unlock , even with the code, and when I was looking to do so a few years ago, people with cables were few and far between.

Hey guys, I need some help and am using this existing thread in hopes for some solid advice.
I have a X10a, Just finished my Rogers contract which im really happy about.
I need to unlock my X10a and have done a little research but am skepticle of the "unlock code" pay sites. Can someone with some real experience with this give me some feedback on where I should go(website), what info I should and shouldnt be providing and what to be cautious of when doing this?
Thanks for you help.

I have used mobileincanada.com several times and never had an issue (although they are more expensive @ $20 a code). Since you have completed your Rogers contract, Rogers will also unlock you phone, however they rip you off (just like everything else Rogers) by charging $50 to unlock.
To unlock the phone you will need to provide your IMEI. I have not provided anything else other than billing information.

I have unlocked about 15 phones with them.
Absolutely no problem. Most of it is done through paypal. Just give your name and email address so they can email you all the stuff.

I just dropped my Nokia Lumia 710 off at CPR (Cell Phone Repair) this morning (quoted $30). It was recommended to me, so I hope they can do it. However, they neglected to tell me they closed at 4 on Saturdays and all day Sunday. Looks like I won't get my phone until Monday.

LOL Nokia Lumia, sounds like a type of cancer.
Seriously though, $30? Why is it so expensive at places like this but so cheap online?

Doing it through a carrier often costs $50. It's still saving when you consider that.
BTW, the Nokia Lumia 710 might sound like a disease because it is indeed a sick phone!
It's nothing fancy, but I am surprised by how smoothly it runs, and I actually really like Windows Phone.

Lots of people don't know how easy it is, so paying $30 is probably a good deal.
I usually charge $30 when I do it for someone.

If you pick up their card from The Source signed by an associate there, I believe you might get something like $5 off unlocking your phone.
