Wireless keyboard with smart tv

We recently bought a new smart tv as well as an HP wireless keyboard. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work. The guy at the store assured us that this model is compatible with our tv (Samsung un556300). All that comes in the box for the keyboard is the keyboard itself as well as a little USB input.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I plugged in the USB and turned on the keyboard. That's about where my technological skills end.

Just out of curiosity, does a wired keyboard work?

Some devices have USB ports that do no work for keyboards and other peripheral devices, but are instead intended for attaching storage devices to perform firmware updates or deliver content.

Make sure the TV port works with a wired keyboard, and if it does, then test the wireless keyboard on a computer. If both work, then I am guessing the keyboard isn't compatible.

A quick search on CNET has a forum of people completing of samsung smart tvs not having keyboard or mouse support at all (mod to late 2011), but i don't know about your tv specifically

does it install a driver when you plug it in?

No it doesn't do anything when I plug in the USB. And the keyboard does work on my computer so it's not an issue there.

I guess it just doesn't work with this tv. Stupid salesman.
