Default Mix 97.7 is now Up! 97.7 - where is Beesley?

This morning Mix 97.7 was on...with Beesley.

I just got home and they've changed to Up! 97.7 and all the DJs have changed.

The only reason I listened to that station was for Beesley. Anyone know what is going on here?

http://www.up977.com/

My wife say the change happened at 2pm local time.

Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., Mix 97.7 switched its name to Up! 97.7, changing its format from hits of the ’80s, ’90s and today to “upbeat” and “feel good” songs from all genres and all eras.
Quote:
The station, one of Rawlco’s 15 in Alberta and Saskatchewan, will be giving listeners the entire long weekend to grasp the concept and change, with Up! spinning songs as diverse as Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop, Katy Perry’s California Gurls and the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive.
Quote:
Of course, there are some who weren’t feeling the upbeat mood and excitement of the launch — most of the on-air staff who were told Friday morning of the move and let go immediately, including morning crew Sue Deyell and Beesley, and Night Mix host Allison Brock.
Wow...sucks.

One hour's playlist, from their website:

Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran
Crocodile Rock - Elton John
Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung
Beautiful Day - U2
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
Good Vibrations - Beach Boys
Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
It's Still Rock And Roll To Me - Billy Joel
Rasputin' - Boney M
Life Is A Highway - Tom Cochrane

So, basically, it's what the DJ plays at your Company's Christmas Party/Cousin's Wedding, with less country...so like a Company Christmas Party in Ontario.

I was going to gag but then saw Rasputin, so now I'm conflicted.

If they play Rasputin every hour then they might be ok.

Guarantee you all hours won't be like that...only one cancon song in the group...they need at least 3.

Isn't that the exact playlist of 97.7% of the radio stations in Calgary?

Holy crap, I never even knew Tom Cochrane was Canadian. You're right though. I fully expect the next hour to be nothing but Bryan Adams and Glass Tiger and Alanis Morisette. Maybe if we are lucky, we'll get a Loverboy or Platinum Blonde song thrown in there.

They need 30%, so in a list of 15, there should be 4 or 5.

IIRC, it has to be 30% over the entire broadcast day from 6am to midnight, so, that means that if you listen later tonight, it will be a lot of Bryan Adams, The Guess Who, and Barenaked Ladies between 8 and 12.

Allison Brock had a decent show in the evenings, that's too bad.

Radio is so weird. Beesley went into work with a job, left without one.

Not sure if serious...

So this is Jack FM without the lame 'no requests' humour? Oh well. Back to the ipod.

It is 33% the whole day, but you can't have huge blocks of cancon late at night either. You can have less during prime hours, but you can't block it all together as the day goes on. Trust me...stations have tried.

Did that myself one day. When Shaw bought CHQT here in Edmonton, one day everyone is there and the next day, I was the only jock left standing and only because I made less than everyone else and could train the new staff.

It sucked big time.

It's been 15 years since I worked in radio, it was 30% back then but I haven't paid attention to the CRTC rule changes. My favourite stupid old requirement was the "spoken word" regulations that led to stations playing all sorts of weird non-music programming late Sunday nights. I think that went away in the early 90s.
