Moving to Singapore in 1 week
Anyone have any tips for me?
A don't suppose there's a crazy western sports bar somewhere that plays hockey games...?

Curious to know . . . What do you do for a living? Australia and then Singapore - big international company?
BTW . . . Check out Changi Island for a cheesy good time lol . . . And oh yeah, get used to the word "Raffles", because it seems to be everywhere in that country.

Don't know of any specific sports bars, but you can really get into horse and boat race betting in Singapore.
I love Singapore, really cool place.

Fabulous place at least to visit anyway. Great places to eat especially in Little India(can't remember if that is exactly what is was called) and Chinatown. Downtown has every store from all over the world you can think of.
Tons to do and see. Very good transportation system.
You can zip over to Malaysia and buy stuff on the cheap.
I'm thinking you will enjoy it very much.

You lucky sob. Singapore and Malaysia are the mecca of good food. Hope you don't have a gambling addiction, there are a lot of nice casinos there.
I can't really help you much with places to visit since I usually only hop in to visit cousins for a day or so and hit the casinos and clubs, but I can help you with food. Since Singapore is filled with the chinese, malay, and tamil, the food is pretty much a fusion of these 3 races. Things to try include a rice dish called nasi lemak, soup dish called laksa (assam or curry), fried wok noodle dish called cha kway tiau, fried rice Nasi Goreng. Hot pot is called "steamboat" and it's predominately seafood. And seafood...Oh man, heaven.
Singapore and Malaysia are pretty similar (they're beside each other). However, singapore is a little bit more liberal than Malaysian. Also, if you're single and North American I guarantee you'll get plenty of play.

Also, if you think Australia was humid . . . Look out. Singapore's humidity will hit you like a ton of bricks.

I know a guy, a Flames fan, who moved to Singapore this month too.
I'll ask him on Facebook about any Western sports bars in case he has found anything yet.

There is a common saying that Singapore is a fine city! $500 for littering, $500 for jay walking, etc.
I was in Malaysia this summer and Singapore for the weekend. Singapore is a beautiful city and the food is UNREAL. It's an expensive place but I love it there.
I remember we went to a bar away from the touristy areas and they were showing a Starcraft match on TV.

-Transit is awesome (and cheap!).
-The airport is amazing (and very professional with the security and customs).
-The food is fantastic and very diverse.
-7-11s are everywhere it seems--the people must love them.
-There are hundreds of freighter ships constantly moving through the channel. For someone who has never seen much naval traffic, it's pretty impressive. At night all the ship lights makes it look like another city out on the water.
-It's hot and humid year-round (not my thing for the most part, but air-conditioning is everywhere, and you rarely need to worry about what to wear aside from the rain).
-There are shopping malls everywhere near the city center, and several are connected to each other by underground tunnels, which are also shopping malls (some three levels deep!). If you like shopping, Orchard Road is paradise.
-The Marina Bay Sands resort is sweet. Definitely check out the view from the top.
-A lot seems to depend on where you live and where you work. Travel can still take a while if you're going across town.
-It can also get pretty crowded in places, especially shopping malls and the like.
-The zoo is amazing. I've been there twice and it's incredible how they do things with natural barriers and no cages, for the most part. The lions are literally a ravine-jump away from you as you walk by, and directly opposite the giraffes, as I recall.

There is actually a zoo(daytime) and a Night Safari(that is where they use the natural barriers to full effect, seems like they are just out there walking along). Plus the Bird Park is awesome. You are way up above the birds. There is this island you go across to on a cable car that had lots of things to do including a very nice beach. Plus gardens, golf etc. Also a great park which is just jungle that was left in a natural state. Full of crocs, snakes, lizards(big ones with large claws). Was a fascinating walk.
There is this fab outdoor water park that has a wave pool, slides etc. It's right beside this big park where you can rent bikes and go for a ride alongside the water--very nice.

Watch / download the Anthony Bourdain show's there (both No Reservations and "The Layover". The latter show was just there a few weeks ago and has some great pointers as to what to eat and a few fun things to do while on a 36 hr layover.
Looked amazing.
