Tiger's ex may be crazy
but, I'd still hit it.

Was the house valued at 12 million or the house and the property? I'm guessing the latter, either way it sucks knowing that there's people out there who find that house unsuitable but crazy seems a bit of a stretch, she probably just loves the location and wants a bigger better house and when you got 100M and are dating a billionaire you're going to get that.

That's ridiculous.
She could have given that to a useful charity or something.
Would have been better than wasting it like that.

Only 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms for $12,000,000. Well then I take back the laughter, because that is completely legit then.
It needs over 9000!!!!!

It says "beautiful house" in the article, but that's clearly wrong, so I don't think I can believe anything else this journalist says. What an abomination.

It's quite possible that the majority of the value in the property is in the land. Say out of $12 million, maybe $10 million is in the land, in which case, tearing an old house down to build a new one is not that far fetched.
The new house could be worth $24 million.

Palm Beach area with waterfront is huge $$$. Personally if I had 100 million I would bulldoze the house as well...I mean, look at it, it's probably 40 years old with far too many smallish rooms.
This is a woman with two kids, she'll build something a little smaller, more modern and will be worth far more
After picture tells me she's building closer to the beach as well...smart move!

Exactly - I felt like I was in crazy town reading that article and the comment section..."Why didn't she just sell it?" "Why not give it to the poor?" What a waste of $12 million!!" No, it isn't actually. Rich people buy property, bulldoze the existing residences and build new ones all the time, it's neither stupid nor weird and something I would likely do as well if I had that kind of coin. And as mentioned above, depending on what she builds and how much that structure costs, she may even come out ahead when all is said and done.

The property was worth $12 million, not the house.
But she's definitely hot.

That make much more sense then.
Still, I couldn't imagine bull dozing a $2 million home.

I agree on both counts.
Net from one thing to the next thing, she's probably going to have a total property value, land plus house, that is worth equal or likely more than the $12 million and she probably had that advice before she started as well.
Nevertheless, of course, its fun to think she's crazy.

What kind of charity can make use of a house in a fancy neighborhood that costs several hundred grand a year in maintenance and taxes?
Or are you saying they should have loaded this house up on trucks and set it down in the projects?
Is there really a feasible charitable option here?
I don't really get the criticism. It is much better for everyone else when rich people spend put their money back into the economy vs just sitting on it. She can obviously afford this without much issue, and may actually be better off for the investment. I suppose this kind of move isn't so great for the environment, but not much us humans do is.

Why it could turn out to be a prudent investment by the time she builds a new home.
I don't think she bought the property with the poor and downtrodden in mind.

I meant, not buy the house and give the $12 million cash to charity if she was going to just bulldoze the house.
It has since been pointed out that the property was worth $12 million, and the house much less. Just tearing it down to rebuild a new house.
Originally it sounded like she blew $12 million on a house just to bulldoze it.
