Default Moving guys?

Anyone know of a company/service that will lift a sofa up to a 5th story balcony?

Got a great deal on a couch but the effin thing won't fit up the stairwell and the store doesnt want to take responsibility in getting it up from the outside.

The balcony doors are sliding and huge, so i dont see that being an issue....it's just getting it up to the balcony itself.

Really hate to return the couch, since it was on sale and saved me almost a grand.

Perhaps try calling local courier/delivery companies that have access to a picker truck with enough reach for 5 floors up?

Can't really blame the store for not wanting to take on resposibility for that.

I used to do household moving and hoisted more than a few couches up. It's not really that hard to do, you just need phone around to some local movers.

You might want to have them pull it up to the balcony above yours and then bring it down into your balcony, much easier than trying to lift it over the rail

5 storeys is pretty high. I'm thinking you might have to go with something like this.

Might end up spending what you saved ....

Pad the crap out of the couch/box, get some ropes, a few friends, and some beer.

This is how I got my sectional couch down from my old 4th floor condo on 17th. The advice to hoist it to the balcony above yours is also good.

What Frank said.

Rig up a couple pulleys to the balcony above you, and get 4 lengths of rope long enough, 2 to stable the load away from the building and 2 to pull.

Add video camera in case anything hilarious ensues.

While hoisting it up sounds like a good adventure, I pussed out and just traded it in for a smaller couch. This one was small enough that we could deliver it ourselves (and thus not spend on delivery fees), it fit in the elevator so we didn't even have to use the stairs, and was even a bit cheaper. Game set match.
