Default New Xbox Platform and Zune

The update a few weeks ago changed the xbox platform quite a bit.

I started messing around with Zune and the kinnect that someone left here after a party.

Anyone like the new platform?

Also I started the 14 day trial of Zune. Don't really understand what it is exactly. Anyone else use it? Opinions? Can you tell me what to do with it? Basically it seems like $10 a month to access unlimited live content, but what content is actually up there? I don't really know what to look for or what to use it for.

I guess after posting this I'll go look up Zune.

Thanks!

It's Microsoft's version of the iTunes store. You get access to the same 'stuff' (save for any 'iTunes exclusives'). But with the Zune Music Pass, you get unlimited access to music and music videos versus iTunes' "Pay-Per-Song" system. Zune also has a Pay-Per-Song system, but they're really pushing Music Pass. I don't know if the free trial covers any other video content, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

I like the 500 MB of cloud-based storage for saved games, and the fact that you can use your profile on other Xboxes now... though that one should have been done a long time ago.

Derp. It was. I used my profile on a friend's Xbox 360 almost a full three years ago.

Yep, I logged into my nephews xbox with my account - downloaded my Rock Band tunes and was able to play them all on my account with no issues - and that was definitely 2-3 years ago.

Wondrous world we live in. I also heard they store music on compact discs now

Edit: Weird... I just checked out the new features video instead and they're touting it around like it's a new feature. That's the only reason I knew it was possible this time around heh.

It is a new feature.

Before you had to "recover your gamertag" to get it onto another machine. This invalidated the profile on your original machine until you did the irritating recover process again.

You could move stuff around via external storage, but I never tried it.

The NEW feature is that:
1) your profile is cloud based, meaning you can sign in from any location
2) game saves can be cloud based so you can access your saves from any location.

I LOVE the new platform, MS has really done a good job IMO. Xbox offers far more than any of its competitors and I think the Kinect technology is only beggining to show us what it can do. The rumours of the Xbox 720 coming out next year has me pretty pumped.

This more than makes up for the RROD issues it had when it first came out.
