Default The Tariff Thread

Since this has been a major discussion and will likely become even more significant now it is probably worthy of a seperate discussion place.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/arti...rumps-tariffs/

Quote:
1:38 p.m. EST: Canada was notified this morning of tariffs
CTV News' chief political correspondent Vassy Kapelos says Canada was notified this morning by the U.S. that China, Mexico and Canada will be subject to tariffs: 25 per cent across the board with the exception of energy, which will be 10 per cent.

It would take effect on Tuesday and would be in place until the fentanyl overdose issue is sorted.

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Finance Dominic LeBlanc and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will announce a Canadian response at 6 p.m. ET tonight.

A senior government source tells CTV News that Ottawa is expecting something formal at 2 p.m. EST. Cabinet is set to meet at 3 p.m. EST.

Oil at 10%, which pretty much guarantees an export tax, the revenue of which will soften the blow across the economy.

He’s trying to destroy our economy. The plan is obvious.

Pretty crappy to be tariffed by our neighbors who we thought had our back. I feel bad for all the small business across Canada that will be getting hurt by this the most. Who knows how long it will last but I don't think the Americans travelling up here are going to be made to feel very welcome in the months to come.

Neither will family members south of the border who support this and voted for it. I’m done with them.

I have some family and a few friends in the U.S. and thankfully none of them voted for any of this s***. They're just as pissed about this as Canadians, as are millions of other Americans I expect.

Alberta already provides plenty of revenue to "soften the blow" across this useless country. If the rest of the country hadn't cancelled our pipelines to the coast we could completely cut off the Americans but now we can't without massive revenue loss.

It would be just like our federal government to kick us in the balls though so I fully expect that to happen at 4pm.

You’re lucky. My MIL (and now deceased FIL) and my wife’s cousins are all MAGA idiots. Fk them.

The head of the Automotive Parts Manufacturing Association says that the auto industry likely shuts down within a week of tariffs because of critical movement of parts across the border. He says that sometimes parts can cross the border a number of times and would essentially be tagged with the 25% tariff each time which would be an industry killer.

Ok, so that's one industry. Canada would still get ####ed form everything else.

I can't believe Trump's advisers are letting him go through with this. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Well 75 million of them voted for Trump, and as a result our country is getting tariffed and our currency is in the toilet. Once people actually start to feel this and the economy gets put into recession, there will be a lot of unhappy people looking for someone to blame.

His advisors are all "Yes" men so not really surprised. Say no to him and likely get fired.

So you're blaming everyone except the orange s***stain who is responsible? WTF, dude? Only one person is the cause of this mess, and he's currently sitting in the Oval Office. Might want to direct your ire towards him and his MAGA lunatic handlers instead.

Blaming Canada for their fentanyl consumption problems is like blaming lug nut manufacturers for an increase in tire prices.
