GDT: Lunar Eclipse - December 10, 2011
Anyone else planning to check this out? I am going to try and get up and snap a few pictures if I can get a good view.

Total#Lunar Eclipse on December 10
Set your alarm to get up early on Saturday, December 10 and step outside to witness the last total lunar eclipse until April 14, 2014. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the earth's shadow. Beginning at around 5:00 am MST you will start to notice some limb darkening. Then at 5:45 am the moon will begin to enter the dark umbra portion of the earth's shadow. This is the start of the partial eclipse. The moon will be completely inside the shadow beginning at 7:05 am and this is the start of totality. Mid eclipse occurs at 7:32 am MST and ends at 7:57 am. The moon will set below the western horizon during the ending partial phases of this eclipse. One will notice as the moon enters into totality it takes on a deep orange/red colour. Although the moon is inside the earth's shadow it is still dimly lit by sunlight that skims the edge of the earth and is refracted towards the moon. What you are actually seeing on the moon's surface is light from all the world's sunsets and sunrises in real time.

The weather forecast appears to be in our favor.
I would be interested in seeing other peoples photos of the event.

Well I am planning on waking up then to keep studying for my test at 9AM tomorrow(today) so I guess I'll venture outside and take a look before the moon sets.

Exactly my plan as well. Got a 9 am class at the U of C today. Gonna be strange since I'm actually a UBC student (doing distance ed for the last few courses of degree) and I've never had a weekend exam before. With the eclipse, today just seems like a strange and unique day overall. Here's hoping for good things to happen.

Looking pretty good. If you are up, poke your head outside, and look at the moon slowly consuming itself.

No light pollution southwest of the city, just me and the dogs stepping outside and checking it out in the quiet of the country.

And the last sliver of the suns reflection and life giving glow has faded away. Leaving what looks like an eerie glowing ember hovering in the sky.

I started walking towards it, to get a better look, then realized that might take forever. So I stopped. Orangish glow.

Sorry, wasn't able to get a good picture. I did manage to get the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart" stuck in my head though.

Slightly off topic, but is the servers clock an hour behind?
I noticed all my posts are 1 hour behind from when I made them.
Edit: WTH after I made this post, they are on time..... weird. Must have something to do with my work computer.
