Poppy Plaza Vandalized
Apparently someone decided that Calgary's new war/veteran memorial needed some additional paint. ( CBC Article)
I don't normally get all wound up, but this infuriates me because there is absolutely no reason to do this other than to be an inconsiderate c**t. WTF is wrong with people?
At least I understand the motive (greed) when some loser steals a poppy box or two.....this is just beyond understanding.

It doesn't sound like it was defaced in an anti war way... Just some pathetic loser that felt the need to write his pathetic loser name on the wall. The moron probably didn't even realize that it was a war memorial, because he probably didn't even finish grade ten.
Graffiti is just so lame. No, wait... Tagging is just so lame. I actually like graffiti when it's artistic. Tagging has got to be the second stupidest form of late night teenage badassery, right after breaking bus shelters. F'n losers.

I have to admit that I've never really understood some folks "need" to run around 'tagging' stuff in the first place.

Its not even talented tagging, it looks like something created by a 3 year old a severed learning disability getting his hands on a can of spray paint.
This punk needs to be cornered and spray painted and then forced to eat paint.

These are the kind of acts that I feel deserve a public embarrassment. Publish the losers name in the paper. Show his picture. Mark it on his record so next time he tries and gets a job it comes up.
If there was justice in the world he would be marched out there to scrub it off with a toothbrush. They should also invite some war vets out while he does it.
I don't care if the guy is 15 or 35. Losers like this never get what they deserve.

So pointless.
The good thing about when you catch taggers is that you pretty much know what else they have defaced. It would be nice if there was a way of recording the expense of what they have tagged in the past and subsequently send them the entire bill when you eventually get him.
In fact if the City did record the expense of clearing up after the most prolific taggers and published the details along with offering a reward for a percentage of what gets recovered, maybe one of their loser 'friends' might shop them.

Neil Grinham has been arrested in relation to other acts of vandalism. And is a possible suspect in this incident. The pictures of the other suspects are on the QR77 webpage.
Another interesting link.

the catching of this guy is another reason I am all for those random cameras downtown.
If i know I am not doing anything wrong I shouldn't have a problem with a camera on me. I do not remember the rules but I would be all for cameras everywhere but no one having access to watch them unless the tape needed to come out for a crime.

I vaguely remember a case from a decade ago where a loser was charged with vandalizing a war memorial somewhere in the US. After being found guilty, the judge's sentence was to force the kid to watch Saving Private Ryan and apologize to a local veterans' group.

Really? I'm glad this kid was caught, but what you're advocating here is taking society one step closer towards 1984.

Personally, this is a case where creative sentencing should come into play.
"The court orders the defendant to have this large cactus (gasps abound in the courtroom) placed inside his rectum. After which every member of Major League Soccer will take 10 connecting penalty kicks at his posterior. The defendant will be responsible for cleaning up his blood and/or feces afterwards. Court is adjourned."

After spending a fair bit of time in Oz, I can say that they fit between us and the USA on the spectrum of patriotism. If we publicize this in Australia, this guy won't be too welcome when he comes back home.

It is for situations like these, that we need to re-institute capital punishment.
