Default Recommend a Wedding Catering Company

We are just in the process of planning what to do for our wedding reception, and was wondering what recommendations people have for catering companies.

The plan is to have the reception at a community centre, and probably a buffet style would be the way we would want to go. We are also on a bit of a budget, so under $30 per person. (If that is even possible.)

We used Flying Plate Catering for our wedding and we were pretty happy. They were not crazy expensive iirc, pretty sure it was less than $30.

Great Events is doing ours. The food is good and they have a rental company aswell to get all the little things you might of forgot about.

For my wedding in August we used a small family run catering company out of Turner Valley called Duncan's catering. The food was absolutely unbelievable and for a roast beef and chicken buffet we only paid $21.95 a plate, including some of the best home made desserts I've ever tasted. Pretty much $10 cheaper than anything else we could find and I guarantee the food is better than what you would pay $30 for with some companies. They don't do any advertising so they basically get all of their business via word of mouth, and they're incredibly busy, if that tells you anything. Don't have the phone number on me right now but I'll see if I can get it from my wife and pass it along to you. Definitely recommend it. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Thanks- they sound great. And our reception will likely be somewhere in the deep south; so that should work.

I have known a few people including myself that have used Alpine Catering for their weddings. They are super reasonable and have lots of different options. The kicker for me was that they have super reasonable corkage fees - I think $5/person which includes all glasses, mixes, ice, garnishes etc etc. as not being able to supply your own booze would cause overall costs to skyrocket given most of my friends are boozebags. Only additional cost was for bartenders. I wouldn't say that it was super fancy but for a meat and potatoes crowd it was great. Final cost for us was around $5K all in including 3 course meal (NY Strips for mains), corkage, bartenders, setup etc etc for around 140 people. They actually cook onsite as they essentially have a mobile kitchen. All they need is access to water.

Sorry - forgot to mention that we rented tables and chairs separately from another company

Our reception was south of the city as well.

I used great events for my second reception in Calgary. It was just appys/linens/plates and glasses and what not and it was really good quality and service but I found the price to be far to steep. That said I didn't compare anywhere and I am just bitter that I had to throw a second reception that almost cost as much as my first one in Vegas. Stupid families!
