He'd better run a stronger campaign.

Agreed. I think he along with everybody else under estimated Nenshi; and figured he could easily beat Barb. I don't think he will make that mistake again.

Considering that I voted for our current Mayor because of the bad campains run by the other candidates.

Best of luck to Mr. McIver. I'm obviously glad he didn't win the Mayoralty but he conducted himself throughout the campaign in a way deserving of respect.

Might be a good thing for SE LRT if McIver gets in provincially? I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, McIver should be quite amenable to having the province do more for cities. On the other, I don't know if the things he'd want to do for Calgary would be the ones we'd want.

Encouraging more mass transit usage? That's social engineering! Better to save every Calgarian $5/month on their tax bill instead.

That's not conisistent with McIver's mayoral campaign at all. He wanted to continue subsidizing sprawl and build the SE LRT (also a sprawl inducer), which would've meant long term tax increases.
For clarity: I like investing in transit, but if you build to the edge of the city and subsidize the houses that will be more likely to get built there as a result, that's bad for the city as a whole.

I was just making fun of McIver's opposition to TOD and Plan It, which he infamously called "social engineering".

I think Ric would be a fine MLA. Hopefully he'd help solve the ring road issue once and for all. It's right up his alley, I think. No pun, I swear.

Its interesting to me. I just figured that Ric would be closer to the Wildrose? I think that things must be better for the Tories than what I had gathered.

I've always thought he played more of a "Provincial" political game than a municipal one. I think that the tough-talking, straight-shooting "Doctor No" persona will play better in a party environment.
This news doesn't really excite me, but it doesn't bother me either. Good Luck Rick.

Well one of them ran for mayor and received roughly 100k votes. The other is Art Johnston who of course is famous for running for the PCs in Calgary and winning his seat. It was a foregone conclusion IMO.

Previous to his stint as alderman, Ric lost the nomination for this position to Art.

Ric will be the best backbench MLA that Calgary-Hays will ever have.

Oh really? I didn't realise that. Its interesting to see how much progress he has made since that whereas Johnston basically stayed still.
