Default Need a free on-screen video recording solution for PC

Would like to record the on screen video and audio of a running PC program, say about 4-6 hours worth.

Are there any free software solutions that will do this?

Ideally, I'd like to output this to a DVD that I could play on a regular DVD player...

Thanks.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

For the video stuff, there is a lot of options, and I never found one that I really liked enough to actually do anything productive with. For some reason, I think Microsoft Expression does this, but I am not sure if there is a trial or anything, but if you have access to Dreamspark(Need active Post Secondary account), it is available there.

Anything that generates a video file, can be used with DVDFlick to create a DVD playable video afterwards though.

I know a lot of people that are recording boss fights in games and mean to later put them on you tube use a program called Fraps.

I personally have very little experience with it. But figured it was something that might work... hope it helps.

I was looking for something to do this last month at work and came across: http://camstudio.org/

It was originally built as a free product, but over the years, it got purchased and repackaged and resold many times over, to the point where the current version is built into Adobe Captivate. However, you can still download the last free version, which does a great job of capturing screen content.

It has very few settings, so it's easy to setup. One warning: By default, it records 200 frames per second, so if you're recording full screen, your file will be huge (your hard drive probably wouldn't have enough room for 4-6 hours). Fiddle with the settings to get a manageable file size, but other than that, it does one thing, and it does it well.
