Default Thank you blood donors

Early Wednesday morning my mom had some complications after a routine surgery and needed a blood transfusion.

I would just like to thank anyone who has ever donated blood, you have no idea what it means to me that my mom is still here today and recovering wonderfully.

I thought about not posting this but CP and its members are a pretty big part of my life and it has been a tough week for me.

I've never donated blood before, but I certainly will now. Sometimes you don't appreciate something until it hits close to home.

Thank you.

Donating is something I've always thought about doing, but never followed through with. I suppose there's no time like now.

Glad to hear your mom is doing well. I have donated blood for about 10 years now (7 of those years were in Calgary/Edmonton). I just figured it doesn't take much effort and it would be great if I could help someone out.

I never have either, but probably should. I think my mom has given blood over 100 times.

I can't donate for health reasons but I have much respect for those who do, especially if you have a rare blood type.

I donated blood a couple times and I currently donate plasma twice a week. It feels good knowing that you're helping out someone. Best wishes to your mom malcolmk14.

I've tried to donate at least once a month. I'm O- so they love me. I feel like I get CBD calls every week though. I thought needles would hurt since I believe they use the second largest needle. But it really doesn't feel more like a weak pinch or a strong one if your nurse isn't very good. First time I donated blood a lady fainted and was pale white. It was pretty scary... I've seen others faint but it's NBD.

Glad your Mom is doing well, hang in there!

I've donted a few times this year, I'm O+...Had to take some time off because of being to different countries where you have to wait 6 months to donate again.

I find the best donation spot is the main office downtown...The last time I went there they were handing out crave cupcakes after your donation. Score!

I have a rare blood type and CBS phones me often, and I donate as frequently as I can. I'm very healthy and believe this is my duty. I believe that everyone who is able should do it. I like to chat up the nurses.

Anyone going for the first time make sure you don't go hungry. I made that mistake once and damn near passed out.

I too am one of those valuable blood type guys . . . . .

I was sitting in a college class one time and the professor walks in, points at me and says, "You, lets go . . . ." We had somehow discussed earlier that we had the same rare blood type and and there was an emergency shout-out for donors . . . . so off we went.

I still give to this day, although less in the last couple of years.

You're welcome.

I recommend everyone do it. It's one of those simple things almost anybody with a lunchbreak can do that can literally save lives.

Just don't schedule your donation on the same day you have hockey. It'll kick your ass.

They've just put out calls because it sounds like the blood supply is relatively low.

I do have to give credit to the donor system, to an extent they saved my life.

When I went down to donate they did the normal checkup and discovered an irregular heart beat, wouldn't take my blood because it was a problem and got me in to see a cardiologist.

While the idea and act of giving blood is great (if they are really nice you get a tonne of cookies) be aware.

The Canadian Blood Services agency will hound you every other month for the rest of your life for more donations.

I dont see why they dont just let me do my twice a year blood donations and then not hassle me, is that so hard.

You must be donating plasma then. Whole blood donations can only be done every 56 days.

First time I donated, there were too other people there... one had a bad reaction and had to be treated, and the other's arm just wouldn't clot, so he ended up bleeding everywhere. Was wondering WTF I got into. Turned out alright though. Gave for the third time about two weeks ago.

Our office is part of Blood Services Donors for Life. So we're committed as an office to contribute 40 units per year. I've gone 3 times so far this year, but everytime we've gone, someone in our office faints lol. Our admin tried 3 times to give blood, but has had some kind of complication every single time. Talk about a trooper though!
