Default Base Station vs. Time Capsule

So both are on sale today and I can't figure out what to buy.

Can I do wireless data transfer and backups with just a Basestation?

Can I plug more than one external harddrive into a Time Capsule and still use it for wireless backups?

What would you guys buy?

I use a base station, and hook up a hard drive through the USB port for backup purposes and what not.

I don't know if you can use a hub and get more USB ports, not sure, but if so it would probably need a powered one. note, that with the base station and drives hooked up via USB, your speed is much slower, since its USB speed and not built in like the capsule.

NM - didn't realize the new Time Capsules had ethernet connections.

As silentsim noted, you can use a usb hard drive with the base station. Just don't expect it to transfer quickly. A 1TB time machine backup to a usb connected HDD will literally take days.

I've had both. Airport Extreme and (currently) the Time Capsule. I tried to setup the airport extreme with an external HD for Time Machine backups, but it never worked for me properly (although others seem to have had success)... I recently got Time Capsule and its been working flawlessly.

Having owned both, I definitely prefer Time Capsule. Internet speeds seem the same, although I didn't do any specific testing for that. Got the 2tb version which is plenty for me.
